I'm impressed at how quickly the tech crew can bring up the 'thats never happened before' graphic when people say it. I feel like I'd be leaning back sipping on a coffee and would fall out of my chair as I rushed to slap the button and make the graphic appear, but they're ON IT.

eh

replaying it on the switch collection gave me a lot of moments of frustration where making a small adjustment would have mario doing a weird half circle turn and throwing himself off the small ledge I was on

Don't get me wrong, it was amazing for the time, and is probably by no means "bad" but again, I had a lot of control related frustrations doing a casual 120.

Playing Mario 64 on modern controllers is misleading. A fresh, non-worn-down N64 controller analog stick is way more precise and responsive than modern (more robust) implementations and SM64 is tailored to it.

Of course later Mario games refined and homogenized the stranger quirks of SM64 but the nuance and expressiveness of 64 Mario's moveset is nearly unmatched in the whole of game design.

yeah i have several near-perfect n64 controllers and comparing sm64 on those compared with my switch pro controller, there is no contest, the n64 controller is just insanely smoother

fair, it dawned one me that something like this was probably part of the reason for my experience.

They were so good, the stick is massive and has so much movement. When new, when used they are hilariously slack.

there's a joke about how SM64 should be a college course at this point but it may as well be with how thoroughly it's been stripped apart and analyzed

it reminds me a lot of DOOM where they were effectively inventing an entire genre and somehow managed to nail the core gameplay first try

Most of those limericks have absolutely no sense of meter, it's horrible. The Pokemon parody had decent syllabics but it being sung made me want to be dead.
