Yeah he’s correctly identifying the secret to WWE booking

I've only been to one WWE house show in my life & I SWEAR that the 2nd most over guy after John Cena was Alex Riley. He got a huge pop, girls were going crazy for him, there were Alex Riley signs all over the place. A hot angle can absolutely make up for any shortcoming a performer has, but you have to follow-through with it for it to work long-term.

...this is correct, broadly, though? I guarantee monthly AEW PPVs would not do the kind of numbers the existing ones do, especially in the current economic climate. And some kind of streaming arrangement has been floated for AEW here for like... as long as AEW has been a thing.

in this economy? better off spending money on Crash Bandicoot Bootlegs. I love '2003 Crash 2 Advance' for the GameBoy Color

the dumb part is jumping to the conclusion that more ppvs = monthly ppvs (and maybe the implication that wwe rushes through stories instead of hitting the same beats over and over) but yeah, otherwise fine Pylons posted:I mostly posted this here because of the "insanely cruel" overreaction. even if aew did decide to do monthly ppvs, spending $50 on it every month to watch would really loving suck without cheaper alternatives especially with the wwe network devaluing ppvs so hard. but there'll be cheaper options no matter what, and aew won't do monthly ppvs

They do monthly special events but I think 8 of them are just Impact Plus exclusives.

It's completely incorrect, WWE went monthly and had the critically acclaimed 1997 and then their hottest period PPV business wise from 1998-2001.

Seams posted:There needs to be a No More BS match before every main event If you feel like you need to do a crowd break/seperator match, this is probably what you should do, send a beloved legendary veteran out there for a few minutes to squash some weasel heel and do his well loved spots, something people will actually be happy to see and won't take too much time. I think there is something to having a show be a roller coaster with alternating high energy and low energy stuff, but "low energy" shouldn't be "something boring nobody wants to see", but rather, something more technical, or storytelling based, or nostalgic. Cody and MJF matches used to serve this purpose. It's not the only right way to do it though, a show like Forbidden Door that's just non stop high octane excellence from start to finish is perfectly valid too if you can pull it off. It just sets a super high standard. Drakkel posted:"AEW has no stories" is the most widespread galaxy brain bad take by far at this point. People really believe that it's not a storyline unless the wrestlers have like 27 matches in a row and the announcers recap it every 5 minutes One of the key ways that you level up your rivalries in WWE 2K22's GM mode is to book the same matches over and over again. This is what WWE sees as good booking.
