I think it’s fine to make fun of bad opinions but the tenor of the thread is much more “these people will never support us.” which, sure yeah, trad Catha are probably not going to. the substantial number of vaguely Christian Americans who support abortion rights but wouldn’t personally do it are different. it feels like an online versus irl thing.

most american's pro-choice does not include abortion in any circumstance. they get their ideas about abortion from the people in power, and will abide by the eventual democrat compromise of abortion up to two weeks into a pregnancy, after consultation with a crisis clinic equivalent in democrat states.

it's very interesting to see people talk about podcasters and twitter users. it kind of feels like being on twitter again. what I remember from twitter years ago is that bruenigs are really well-liked by most chapo people. lots of people got very weird about liz (both criticizing and supporting) but if I clicked on one of her controversial tweets I would see, like clockwork, people who may have yelled "bernie go on chapo" at my old college campus defending her to the death.

Genuine question - is there any indication that the Bruenigs actually have left-wing politics beyond sort of generic social democrat stuff? One thing I've noticed in recent years is that there's usually a big difference between people who just levy (accurate) left condemnation of Democrats and advocate for social democratic policy, but without actually explicitly being a communist/socialist. The difference often shows up in opinions (or lack thereof) about US foreign policy.
