Who could have predicted this?

If it weren't for the goofy traffic markings on the wrong side of the road these could be pictures from B.C.'s Lower Mainland last fall.

I can translate IRBS ( I think) but jetski must mean something different in Oz than in Canuckistan, a large hydrofoil maybe? Here jetski = personal water craft which would be only slightly more useful for an offshore rescue than a canoe. Or maybe the Coasties like to kick back and have some fun in big waves every once in a while?

Yep, that's a jetski. Might be next to useless for rescues, but looks real good when you're cruising the beach all summer trying to pick up.

Huh? You throw a line out with a flotation device for a jetski rescue. Not useless. Best used in big break surfing to tow out and rescue surfers in a way it would be actually impossible for a boat to do.

quote:

Efforts to tow the stricken cargo ship MV Portland Bay to deeper waters were suspended overnight after tow lines broke in extreme weather conditions.

As wild winds and torrential rains continue to lash Sydney’s coast, it could be Wednesday before it is safe to tow the 170m ship into port.

The Portland Bay, carrying nearly 1,000 tonnes of fuel oil, is currently at anchor about 1.2 nautical miles off Cronulla, attended by the tugboat, the SL Martinique. The Port Authority of NSW says the ship is in a sheltered, safe position, both anchors are deployed and secured.

The 21 crew on board are safe.

In a statement, the Port Authority said:

[W]ith 11 metre swells experienced last night, an operational decision was made to suspend further attempts to tow the ship out to sea.
The crew of the MV Portland Bay has been unable to make the repairs required on board and the incident team’s preference at this time is to bring the ship into Port Botany when the weather abates so repairs can be undertaken in the safety of a berth and port environment.
Based on current weather forecasts, it is expected that the ship will remain offshore until at least Wednesday.

Not everyone has a working air conditioner, power can and does go out or gets cut off. Many people are not in control of their thermostat and no the landlord doesn't care. And then there's the prisons where lmao if you think they're gonna cool them, some prison cells will be 120F roasting people alive which happens everywhere. Do we really need a color past "don't work outside" I guess we could also have "don't go outside". Actually yeah let's do that. We can join forces with the covid thread and create display panels that generate far uvc which can be used for this new label.
