Nice! I'd definitely consider Burst of Speed for commander Vader; proxy it if you don't have it. Remember that he's got compel corps now so he's pretty strong leading an inexorable gunline

Sadly the store I play at doesn't allow proxies. I wish it was in the card pack, but it looks like it's just with commander Yoda., I was thinking of playing more rebels, but I really don't want to invest in more than one faction right now. (I'll likely break that rule when Ewoks come out).

I can't find any PDFs of just keywords. there's a list on the legion wiki keywords page (webpage, not PDF), and the keywords are also listed in the rules reference bok (PDF, but it has a lot of other stuff there).

Yeah the rules reference is the closest to what you want. Also should note that Burst of Speed is in the forthcoming upgrade card pack which should be out soon- it is kinda dumb to not allow proxy cards for casual games imo but I literally don't make the rules. Op Vader doesn't need it as much being speed 2 now but he's more of a loner than the commander version

E: also I wouldn't trust the wiki it's very often out of date

Just pre-ordered the Shadow Collective box! I'm excited for some mercs to be floating around. Not so much for the Pyke or Black Sun troops, mostly for dragging Maul, Bossk, Fett, and Din/Grogu into a single list :getin:

I might pre-order the 501st box. It looks like a good way to jumpstart a republic army.

I have some bad news...

Edit: They've posted the Force org chart and Bossk and Cad can go in shadow collective, but not Boba or Din.

Did FFG ever do spare standard bases seperately? I got a bad can of army painter white and there was a bit of a whoopsie when stripping the clones that ended up being gritty.

There's a premium base pack that's got some spaceship hull textures but you can probably base over them

Yeah I'm not going to muck about with those. The base attachment is shakey enough with the standard ones and adding more texture seems like a great way to be repairing bases forever. Plus I just need four, so I'd rather not have four clones who really stick out.

PMing now.

In other news, it has taken me this long to realise that unlike most other wargames, when they give you all the options in a box they really give you all the options. There's no pile of spare arms for these clone troopers.

Feb 1, 2004

Just ordered a bunch of shadow collective units, so I will now have an empire list along with a shadow collective list.

Regarding mercs: I did see that boba Fett isnt playable with a pure shadow collective unit, however I'm under the assumption that he's essentially being...replaced? With Mando once that unit is released?

hoiyes
May 17, 2007
I wouldn't count on new Mando being playable by shadow collective either, given they included the equally unreleased but announced swoop bikes on the force organisation chart. Cad bane and Bossk are no slouches and nuBoba is a really excellent piece for Empire, who have a good gunline but can struggle with objective play.

Yeah, boba has absolutely won me a few games solely base on him writing off any terrain impediment and speed 3. I'm glad he finally got a small but needed damage increase as well, but it's a shame that he can't be used by shadow collective.

I like bossk, but he is so squishy which is unfortunate. And I've never played cas bane, so that'll be fun too.

It would be nice for an additional bounty hunter in the ever growing quiver of bounty hunter, alas I shouldn't complain with what's currently available

CIS looks boring but efficient, Rebels look super fun, Imperials not as good but there's definitely some fun there, GAR is not looking great. Which tbf is about how the factions are looking in general right now

Yeah the 501st is pretty underwhelming. They don't even get an operative choice. Rebel and Empire looks fun though.

I strongly suspect that 501st was mostly designed before ARCs got completely murdered in the last round of errata. It might be stronger if they get buffed again- plus there's always the possibility of Ashoka at some point (though since it's themed around Umbara she's not guaranteed to be part of the list)

Yeah, I'm really hoping that empty Operative slot is just waiting for a new unit to get introduced. Operative Ahsoka would be awesome.

So what is a battleforce? I was thinking it was just a starter set, but it looks like it has it's own rules, but what is the benefit to sticking to a specific set of units? Is it just you can use the custom command cards?

Different unit type limits from the normal forces and the custom command cards. The Empire one also has different Stormtroopers you can use.

Worth noting that the models are still usable anywhere else, in fact most of them look like pretty good bargains for buying into a faction. I'd probably still start with a core set but add a battleforce and maybe a generic commander and you've got a pretty reasonable full list

I've been toying around with a list builder for my clones and I'm kind of surprised at how few units I need to include before I hit 800 points. I haven't really bothered with too many upgrades beyond a special weapon trooper here or there, and looking into all the other types feels like a lot of effort before getting a feel for basic combat.

hoiyes
May 17, 2007
Clones usually sit between 8 - 11 units. 8-9 with Yoda, 9-10 with Anakin and 10-11 with Rex.

StashAugustine
Mar 24, 2013

Do not trust in hope- it will betray you! Only faith and hatred sustain.

Heavy weapon troopers are generally necessary for units that want to shoot things (its okay to have some corps just there for padding and objective duty) but then other upgrades are generally only added once you've got the rest of the list down. There's case by case exceptions where you wouldn't field a unit without certain upgrades (force users in particular) but getting the skeleton of your list first is generally necessary. Most 800 lists in theory shoot for about 10 units, but clones in particular are expensive and have various synergistic mechanics that mean they get away with 9 or so

Is the original core set still a good idea to start a Rebel army?

I only got to 8 units with Rex. I guess throwing Padme in there just because she came in the deal probably isn't the best idea, and the ARC Troopers seem rather spendy for such small units.

It provides all the bits an pieces you'll need, and both rebel troopers and Luke are good options (though with Luke you'll want the operative expansion for a better version and more cards for either option.) I'd also look at the battleforce box as a second pickup- idk if you can make a strong force using its special rules but the extra troops should get you most of the way to a solid 800 point list

Arcs were busted as hell on release, got nerfed until they were strong but overcosted, then both they and the faction as a whole got hit even harder without getting points cuts; so yeah they're not that great right now. Padme is a strong option and honestly doesn't really need upgrades herself that much. A generic clone commander is also a strong pick up- cheap, you can fit one into any corps centered list easily, and the pack has generic command cards as well

I'm also looking to start out and have been eyeing either just the starter pack or the rebel battle force, so thanks for the clarification there. What do the special rules mean for play? Are they just unique command cards that are eligible if you use a commander from the battleforce? Are they something that both players need to opt into to use? Something else?

Yeah basically you can choose to make a "battle force" which has a different force org (for Echo Base Defenders, you can combine up to 4 commanders/operatives, must take 1 support but can have up to 4), and restrict what units you can take; but also give you unique command cards on top of the force org (theoretically you could just really want to run 4 tauntauns and not care about the cards.) Some may have special rules or unique units as well. They're designed for general play so you should be able to play them in any scenario, they're not just for themed or paired events. I'd probably recommend both force and core set; Commander Luke is an option for EBD. Probably also pick up a specialist pack for the generic officer and Rebel command card options.
