Not sad to hear Abe is dead. Sad to see the arguments against gun control my dumbass circle will come up with based around this assassin successfully ‘muricaing Abe with a pipe gun. Also, is it racist to wonder if the reason I’m only seeing photos and no videos is because this is Japan? I feel like it isn’t, but I’ve learned not to crowd source the voices in my head so much on such matters. I’m seeing reports the assassin was a JSDF vet, and extremely online. Makes me wonder if Japan has a GiP and if this is them right now-

There was also the whole 'Abenomics' reforms to try and get the Japanese economy out of it's decades long slump. I didn't think there was a huge amount of controversy around it, mostly straightforward stimulus measures like increased government spending and monetary easing that at least didn't make things objectively worse.

Not sure, but I know he tried his hardest to get rid of the clause in the constitution that prevents Japan from waging war. He also quit literally days after beating the previous record for longest running prime minister. Supposedly it was for health reasons, but it was also right as the ruling party in Japan started taking more flak for their covid response, among other things.
