Because Play On sure did !

The army was made by assembling the SoB and Escher figures, cutting them in half at the waist, and then pairing the one with the other and covering the gap with green stuff and chain-link belts. No wasted minis involved ! The Repentia were sufficiently punk rock already, he just painted their hair in various colors.

I haven't started painting my SoB Kill Team yet, and I'm dead set on having one in San Francisco 49ers colors (white armor, gold trim, red cloak linings) that I may just have to paint a second as The Order of the Iron Maiden. I'd probably go for more leather jackets and big 80s hair.

I remember there was some specific reseller in the US who can sell the sable brushes, but I can't quite remember who that is.

I also remember hearing recently there's a ban on importing sable brushes but I couldn't remember if that was still active.

I've looked off and on for 8404s but gave up. I wound up ordering some Artis Opus Series S brushes and I'm fond of them. Better than the W&N S7s I have. QC on W&N must be rough because some are fine and others just splay like mad even with constant brush soap/conditioner.

Blick used to carry them but doesn't now. But I think you can find them from other sellers or amazon.

I have a few of those and W&N S7s, and the S7 do splay more easily if the brush gets dry but don't have problems otherwise.

You're thinking of Wind River Arts, the US distributor of the Rosemary & Co series 33. R&Co still has the sable ban notification on their page but the ban has been lifted and WRA appears to be stocking them again.

I found the cheapest source with a wide variety is actually Jackson Art, in the UK. Loads of choices, and even with price conversion and shipping it was a lot cheaper than anything here in Canada.

Ain't capitalism grand!

i have a couple w&n s7 brushes that are about 15 years old and they are perfect and i still use them. i've also bought a couple w&n s7 off amazon in the past couple of years and i'm convinced they're counterfeit they splay so badly

I haven't used Da Vinci's myself, but I've heard good things about them, and Jacksons only sells quality product.

I think the current favorite non-W&N S7 sable brushes are the Raphael's. https://www.jacksonsart.com/en-ca/brushes/brushes?manufacturer=12150&brush_hairkind=14044_31610

There was another great store, it was called "Battlewagon Bits", and they sold a bunch of bits and sprues in addition to just standard GW models. I was ordering from them one day, shortly after I found out about their existence, and it turned out they were in Hampton, VA near the Langley NASA research facility that was just a few minutes from my house. I guess you *had* to have a physical presence in order to sell, even online, at the time. So they had a big warehouse with a storefront event though they were not expecting much foot traffic. It was nearly indescribable how joyous it was to be in a physical store with *every* GW kit 20% off. I looked at the boxes for what seemed like hours. It was really the golden age of getting models for me! Unfortunately they were bought out by a different company, maybe even the WarStore, and they closed their local storefront.

The War Store's closing was particularly sad, too; Neal, the owner, worked with a church to try and help re-integrate ex-convicts back into society by helping them find jobs. At least one of the people he'd tried to help by giving them a job at TWS' brick and mortar location wound up embezzling a lot of money from the company, and by the time Neal discovered it, enough damage had been done to his finances and business reputation that he had no choice but to close things down.

I read on Dakka that he'd passed away in 2020, as well; from what his daughter said, at least he went peacefully in his sleep. From all accounts he sounded like a really nice guy, so I'm glad he didn't suffer a horrible accident or a lingering illness. I only ordered a few things here and there from TWS over the years before they closed down, but I never had a single problem with any of my orders.

War Store was my go-to for a long time and I think the only only order I ever had an issue with was my very last order. It just kind of evaporated in the ether. I got it refunded after a bit of back and forth of "It's backordered, do you want to wait?", and the next time I thought about ordering some stuff was right when Neal shuttered things so I guess that last order of mine was one that the dude hosed with. RIP to a real one.
