It's the same as when Joey Janella did a perfectly safe Death Valley Driver that looked like he spiked the guy but absolutely did not and all the anti-AEW and pro-Cornette fans (including the few that don't overlap in that particular Venn diagram) were out in force saying he didn't know how to work and was dangerous and so on.

I think it's because they have these two ideas lodged in their brains: 1) "Wrestlers these days don't know how to sell." and 2)"Wrestlers these days are untrained botch machines." So when they see a move that looks good, they think it must actually hurt and be dangerous because it's impossible for modern wrestlers to do anything safely and convincingly. Plus a lot of these idiots think 'selling' is rolling around and hollering like a cartoon character that stubbed their toe, so when a wrestler sells by looking like an actual human being in pain they think it's actually a human being in pain(because these drat play rasslers don't know how to sell, remember?).
