I know you're probably just making a joke, but Japan has had a growing problem with right wing hardliners for a while now, just like most of the world. The fact that Japan may be getting rid of Article 9 will probably embolden them, which can be worrisome to people living in the country, especially minorities.

Don't forget that post-Macarthur, many of the people that were running Japan were involved during the war. It wasn't like Abe, either. I'm talking people with direct criminal involvement. I could list names, but the list is fairly long. Let me just start it with Nobosuke Kishi, who was an economic manager (chief exploiter) of Manchuko and one of the individuals who voted for war against the US, and who eventually became a Prime Minister post-war.

A man confronted in 2013 by a shotgun-wielding John Fetterman — then mayor of tiny Braddock, now lieutenant governor and running for the U.S. Senate — claims Fetterman has “lied about everything” that happened that day.

But Christopher Miyares, writing from a state prison in Somerset County, also told The Inquirer that incident should not stop Fetterman from becoming a senator.

“Even with everything I said, it is inhumane to believe one mistake should define a man’s life,” Miyares wrote in one of two letters sent to The Inquirer. “I hope he gets to be a Senator.” (That last line was underlined three times.)

It seems like he's recovering after the stroke, and PA ends their primaries super-early, so Fetterman is definitely no shitlib.

It's odd seeing the "Democrats don't want Biden to run in 2024" articles with no mention that even if he's not planning to run, he's not going to announce that until at least after the midterms to avoid being seen as a multi-year lame duck. And his likely successors aren't going to declare their candidacy now as it would appear to be an attack on his competency.

Wondering if we might get a Newsom/Fetterman ticket. I know Newsom isn't ideal but he is competently running the most important state and has a national profile and is only in his 50s, and Fetterman would bring a lot of energy. Weird to see assumptions Harris would be the frontrunner when even from a charitable perspective she has been largely invisible as VP.

There are a lot of ways of assisting with a military effort that are of utmost importance that have nothing to do with handling bullets and launching warships. Japan is well positioned to provide meaningful assistance in most of those capacities. They don't have to violate their laws to be a critical partner in the defense of Taiwan.

I’m not sure how Japanese military deployment outside the home islands work unless it’s a UN peace keeping force or non combatant role (I want to say Iraq), but I’m not even sure on what support they can give.

That said supporting with military equipment may be easier after donations to Ukraine.

I do think if Japan had long range attack capabilities or even regional attack capabilities, it helps to reinforce deterrence and gives a credible threat, that Japan can respond on its own and without resorting to the US nuclear umbrella.

We just need to get the ROK and Japan back on the same page, birdshit islands are dumb, Chinese artificial islands, not so much. It’s part of the reason the Japanese are developing their own marine force, plus Russia and the occupied islands is a way to channel all the nationalism into something other than stupid dick waving contest with the ROK, which I’ll admit are mostly aggravated by Japan.

Also lots of Dems got really really mad when Lamb tried the Fetterman is a socialist but. Kenyatta Green was interesting in that when he appeared at the debate he had only just been granted a mistrial in a corruption trial he’s indicted in. I honestly didn’t know who he was until the debate.

On the plus side both of them have pledged to support Fetterman with no reservations.

My biggest concern is the Nazi gently caress running for Governor. The piece of poo poo was at 1/6. My wife is literally trying to convince us to move if he wins.

Shapiro is a fine candidate, but the stakes are so high, as if Hitler wins, he’s got a majority of Nazis in the Reichs…I mean PA legislature.

Agreed. That Nazi gently caress would do whatever he could to destroy democracy in Pennsylvania and probably try and find a way to get the legislature to pick who gets the electoral votes.

It’s amazing how little Corbett could accomplish and that Penn State of all things probably helped in losing. The funniest thing was how they were never able to pass any gun expansion laws except that suing the local municipality thing, but they tacked it onto a bill about copper theft and the PA Supreme Court said you can’t do that.

Honestly, I wouldn’t voted for him, but I miss candidates like Tom Ridge, being the “bad option.” Ridge actually gave a really great speech on public service for my commencement. Even my family who despises Republicans were saying it was really a good speech and a good message.

Republicans would just run ads depicting the worst parts of San Francisco and LA and pictures of high gas prices and say that Newsom wants to take the California model national and create Antifa homeless camps in YOUR suburb. For Fetterman, they'd probably talk about how he's unfit for office because he chased after a Black kid while armed with a shotgun and didn't shoot him.

Someone important, either Biden or who controls Biden has been sabotaging Harris at every opportunity. She's been the face of every PR disaster and her entire VP role seems to be to jump on every grenade like defending horrifying border policy and doing jack poo poo for roe and then for Biden to come do or say something nominal, not actually do anything, and look good by comparison.

PA outside of areas of urban influence is solidly KY. Seriously, some backwards rear end people. Once had a stranger tell me he was looking forward to killing minorities and Democrats.

I look like Taliban Shrek- Army vet, fan of guns, normal things that glomp me in with trash. My daughter brought home her Mexican guy friend, and he straight up told her, "I can't believe he's not racist." Politics are easy- I don't need to follow politics at all anymore. Just look at my neighbors- they will announce pretty clearly who I shouldn't vote for. One of my neighbors has TWO different signs from the My Pillow guy- one calling out election fraud, one advocating for free speech. Over the top Thin Blue Line and Military support garbage, even though the dude never loving served. Of course Trump brandings, and signs for the fascist Cocksucker. I'm not looking forward to the coming PA elections. I don't want to move, but I may have to for the sake of my kids, which blows a lot of rear end for a lot of reasons, but largely because PA seemed the best measure to us in regards to rights, freedoms, and politics.

If I want to know who to listen to, I remember all the Trump signs that were up until last week. I can ask my immigrant neighbors who they feel will better their lives. I can ask my children who would improve their lives. I can go knock on the door of the neighbor with the wonderfully queer daughter, whose house is covered in totems of love and support. Just gently caress.

Japanese Military chat- I've never seen troops so terrified as the JSDF in Iraq. I mean they looked like cartoons- eyes huge, mouths open, pale and shaking. War is scary- it was a lot scarier to these guys who had never crossed the border before, and had to go 12km into Iraq to secure an IED blast.
I swear all I saw was helmet and eyes, guns and hands. Just looked scared as hell.
