You guys keep saying the West doesn't spend any resource on studying the competitions (China Russia). You know, it's worse than that. I recently listen to a few book talks of Kevin Rudd's new book "The Avoidable War". He is actually surprisingly dove in term of the strategy he purpose. He wants a "managed competition" and this part I really like "may the best system win". The way he talk about approach to China is very measured from his usual pet talks in Asia Society, which he currently runs. You got to wonder why would he hold the China cards so close to his sleeves until he write a book. That's because nobody in the west want to hear advise of a limited, and managed competition with China. That's why the US thinktank blob kinda dump the university professors, the people who actually study China and Russia, in the last few decades. Think about it, what's the highest position can a Sinologist possibly achieve? Nothing can be higher than Kevin Rudd. And he is afraid to air his opinion out loud.
