Pantocrat saw the Maraqueets and the Shiverm meet, tentatively. Good. It proceeded to plan.

quote:

”Pray, fair Gods, what should we do? Shall we send the strange birds away? Attack them? They are strange, and we do not like this strangeness.”

Pantocrat whispered back. "wait, for a little while, and let them come closer, and i shall show you."

He waited then, and not long after, a small group of the birds, the Maraqueets came, and were not far from Shiverm. As they approaches, cautiously and colorfully, Pantocrat appeared before them in all his glory, or as much as he dared press into the fabric of the world.

"SHIVERM! MARAQUEETS! HEED ME, YOUR GOD! I have a GREAT TASK for you, and with it comes a GREAT BLESSING. You, I have granted Artistry and Craftmanship. You, I have raised by mine own hands above the common creatures of the world. In that place - " Here, Pantocrat swept his mighty hand towards Oneder in the sky - "There is another land. There are creatures of Pinball and Dinosaur and Axe, as you are creatures of Ice and Neon, and there are wide lands of many plants and creatures. But between here and that land, which is Onder, is the wide gulf, the great expanse of... Nothing. Each of you are tied to you places of Something, and move you from here to there is tasking beyond your belief, even for the gods. And so I grant you the first GREAT TASK of Nowhere."

With these words, Pantocrat heaved from the ground a great bone of Dinosaur, and he covered it with Ink, and then with Ice. Lastly, by Axe he hewed it and with neon and Ink he decorated it. Upon it, he drew the Awakening of the Shiverm, the Maraqueet, the Squilb, and even the distant Assaureds, the Plungerboa, and even the late-comming Aaradice. It showed the granting of Boxes, the first Axioms, and all other acts of the gods of this age. This great, great stone, the size of many houses of the Shiverm, he places in the ground.

"This shall be the foundation of the Flickerfare, the great bridge from Twomb to Oneder. Its creation shall be the work of many ages, and in its creation, you shall learn new ways of creation, new arts of building. It is to be great and beautiful, art and craftmanship in one. But Heed! This work i have given you is a Great Work. It will last from one age to the next, and you shall hand it off to your children, and they to their children, and they to theirs, for many generations of your people. And yet, i promise you that all here shall see the Flickerfare completed and live upon it, as shall all who work upon it, or who grow cucumberg and plantern and any other crop to feed the workers, and those who tend the wounds of the workers, and all others who support the great project, be they Shiverm, Maraqueet, Suilb, or any other creature of Twomb or Oneder.

For this is my great blessing to you: All those who give their lives to the Flickerfare shall rest within it after death, their spirits slumbering among the fruits of their labor. And in many ages, when the Flickerfare reaches across the gap, from Here to There, you shall rise again, to live upon it forever in in beauty and splendor among the works of you and all your descendants after you. Know this: this blessing is great. No others upon Oneder or Twomb has it; all those who live now, except for those who will work upon the Flickerfare, shall perish, their mind and spirit dissolve and become again Nothing. Take this task, build upon this stone, and in many ages, your worth shall win you the greatest of blessings: life everlasting."

Starting the Flickerfare and setting up the rules and conditions: if you work it or help those who do, you get to rest in its stones until it is finished and you'll be resurrected to be immortal and live upon it.

But People have fears that beasts do not. Questions, too.

The Gods crumbled away under the weight of their own power, their essence abrading away as they touched the world. Soon, they would be gone - but to have a fleeting, true purpose, rather than the eons of scrabbling immortality they had as Wisps… the Gods would die, but first their power would feed this world and keep it together a little longer. Enough of that, let us look to the People.

The nameless Plungerboa was not expecting her fervent prayer to get a response - and certainly not by a trio of Gods. She fell to her chrome knees in reverence and fear and had to grip her little head to keep it from splitting under the weight of the revelations. There were other People? There was another world, with yet more People? She stared into the sky, dimly spying the distant orb of Twomb as though it was half-immersed in Ink. She stared at her hands, at the corpses of her fellows, and though. There was just… so much to consider. Axe sharpens axe - it was the will of the Gods that there be competition. She could feel it to be true, resonant in her Pinball body. Peoples, striving for dominance and until now unaware of the nature of the other residents of their world.

Baxie rose, thoughts ringing with Godly wisdom and Godly commandments. She would figure out what it all meant in time, she hoped, but for now she would go to the Asaurted and learn of their ways. Perhaps she could keep her People safe, bring them to ascendance, before they were wiped out by the unthinking - no, not unthinking, ignorant - actions of another.

And she wouldn’t be going empty handed - the God Nummor revealed to her the Oneder Magic of Snackreation, drawing her eyes to the various edibles nearby. She didn’t understand at first, but with some prodding she plucked a Brightberry… wrapped it in a wreathe of Tomahawthorns… added a little pinch of Inkweed… and ended up with something that vibrated with barely contained power. Squawking, she threw it away from herself and-

Snackreation, it seemed, would go a long way to evening the scales. But that was just one in many steps. She just… argh! One thing at a time. First stop - the Asaurted. And she’d got just the gift to bring them!

(The Plungerboa gain a Hero, Baxie. She is Worldly and Charismatic and Powerful, relic of both the particularly powerful roll in her creation and the attention of several Gods. She goes now to seek the technology of the Asaurted, to make the first contact between the races of Oneder… more on that later.

She is also invested with Advanced Snackreation, the second Oneder Magic. Magic bound to the planetoid is widespread and able to be tapped into by anyone who has the knack on the planet. Worldbound magic tends to be subtle and tricky to use, and each additional magic bound to a world decreases the potency of all of them… but they can be worked to powerful effect, particularly when a People (or Peoples) work together on them. )

The Gods responded to their prayers variously. From Pandora of Chaos, an unhelpful - but enlightening - acknowledgement that boxes were not the only working possible by Asaurtkind. And from O’Steely… something grander. The knowledge of Artifaxure resonated with the Inquisitive and Crafty nature of the Asaurted and almost immediately sparked a flurry of new creations carved from from their environment. Even stranger, for a rare few People the tools the made from what would otherwise have been though of as snack food were especially potent. Though the Asaurted had no awareness of Snackreation as such, they skimmed the surface of its power through their workings. Stranger yet, a visitor.

The Asaurted had seen the Plungerboa wielding Axetwigs and whatnot recently and thought it was an amusing oddity, but in hindsight… as mind boggling as it seemed, it was clear that the Plungerboa had been touched by the Gods as well! The visitor - Baxie, it turned out - confirmed as much, and had much more to say! And in exchange for her own strange wisdom, all she wanted was to learn the ways of the IKEƎA. Well, sure! There were Boxes enough for everyone!

(The Asaurted learn Beginner Artifaxure, the ability to build more complicated tools, particularly from Axe. This is just mundane craftsmanship, not Magic, so they can easily teach it to whoever - as such, very quickly the entire People will be pretty good at it. They also gain Low Snackcreation, having intuited it through their own experiments. They also, of course, teach Baxie about everything she asks because she is so cute!)

The Aardiche, largely forgotten by the Gods once more, watched the others over the course of several days and months begin to mingle with a complicated feeling in their breasts. Axiom was a mighty power, and they had used it to hunt more successfully than ever… but the others were ascending as well. They had heard the Godly words “Axe Sharpens Axe” in the tongue of the Pinball prey, and they thought they understood it now. They grew in strength, but so did the others. And now the others were working together, creating… things. The Aardiche could destroy, but these tools could build as well as break.

Feeling vaguely ridiculous, one such Aardiche pressed their bladed beak into the soil and called out to the Gods.

”Oh, Gods… I can feel in my teeth that we’re in trouble. Unless we can fix things, the prey is going to overturn the natural order of things. We need an edge…”

(The Aardiche are feeling uncertain of their place in this world, and very concerned by the alliance of their smaller prey with very large, tool using Dinosaurs. Despite their fears, on the outskirts, where Plungerboa clans are smaller and less able to defend themselves, the Aardiche are thriving due to their use of Axiom. Troublingly, their connection to the Axkashic Records seems shakier than ever, loosening their already loose grip on it…)

Deep below the Ink sea, the Fractal Garden. Deep within the Fractal Garden, the Deviant enclave of Inkfell. Encircled and inscribed by a complex Warpweft pattern, within its bounds the chosen Squild have great power over their home. Walls shift and pulsate to the will of the inhabitants, and plants bloom and offer their fruit willingly. The other Squild, the so-called baseline, dare not venture close.

But Pandora is bound by no such strictures. She arrives among them, and they shiver in delight and exclaim in joy to see Her. Well, exclaim as much as the taciturn Squild are wont to do. This day She brings them a gift from beyond the world - the Myriad, lesser spirits of the Ocean, fragments of Pandora's own power. They cannot manifest directly in Nowhere without… problems, but brave or adventurous Squild offer themselves as vessels. Through the Dolmen Gate, the sisters Myriad sink into them, ruffling their slick feathers and filling their minds with… with…

It is beyond them, the mysteries of the deep Ocean beyond the skies, and their simple minds cannot take it. They are driven mad, but it is a madness which serves their community - from their ravings, the other Deviants are able to draw deep truths about the worlds and its Peoples… for there were, it seems, other worlds, and other Peoples. Peoples which, currently, were wholly unaware of the existence of the Squild. Interesting!

(Pandora creates the sisters Myriad, sentient fragments of Her power that can possess People on Nowhere and grant them strange tastes of the Ocean. These will persist over the Ages, proving tough to kill, and may - eventually - take on the bodies of other People. This further fragments the Squild, and drives a further wedge between the Deviants and the baseline. After all, having a weird clubhouse and some spooky symbols is one thing, consorting with demons from beyond is another! The area around the Fractal Garden is off-limits to most, driving other Squild far afield, towards shallower Inks.)

The Maraqueet kept returning with bouquets of Neon flowers and Ice blossoms and Inkmoss and just… decorating. The Shiverm looked upon these first with suspicion, then with resigned acceptance, and finally with a sort of grudging enjoyment. These strange birds - People in their own right, they had to admit - were builders in their own way. They built… aesthetics? They called it, when asked, art. The Shiverm were no strangers to art, having come to find a certain beauty in particular ways of carving or joining, but this was different. The one larger specimen called Noble was particularly impressive, not only able to make pleasant patterns in the Icework but also strong enough to lift and shape blocks it would take two Shiverm to tackle. Slowly but surely, the two Peoples grew into the beginnings of an alliance.

The God Pantocrat saw this an pondered something even greater. He drew them together and directed their attention to the sky, to the dim orb of the world(!) known as Oneder. He filled their minds with a grand vision - a bridge linking the worlds, a life beyond death in its foundations. The two Peoples… hesitated. They could not disobey the word of the Gods, but this was… it was difficult to imagine that it would… ever be possible? To touch the sky, and beyond? It would take…. Generations and generations, uncountable! The discomfort rose in the gathering until it seemed sure that it would fracture them until Noble took the stage.

”Brothers and sisters Maraqueet, furry cousins of the Shiverm… do not be so hasty in turning this down! Sure, it seems impossible, sure, it seems… foolhardy in the extreme even to attempt it, but look at us! A flicker of time ago we were little more than beasts, a flicker after that we thought we were each alone in this world, and now see us working together! Who knows what the future will bring? Who knows what it could bring, if we started now! What is the lesson of Snackriculture? If you want something to grow the way you want it to tomorrow, you need to take control and plant it the way you want today! Let us plant the seed of a delicious snack for future generations!

A newly invigorated (and suddenly hungry) crowd cheered as Pantocrat looked down upon them from His divine mantle.

(The Shiverm and Maraqueet are working together on a Grand Project: Flickerfare, the bridge to Oneder! One complete, it will connect the two planetoids and its Peoples - and those who work upon it will ensure their survival in the afterlife upon its completion! It will take a very, very, very long time to build, but until then it will draw the People of Ice and Neon together in communal effort.)

Pantocrat saw his peoples, the Shiverm and the Maraqueet, work together on the raising of a great thing. Good, this would be... Good. Yes. If they could stay together for ages and ages. He believed in them, in these tiny little things that would die and wither, but which were... of something, even here, in the nothing. He would join it soon, his essence was crumbling. But there were last things to attend to.

quote:

”Oh, Gods… I can feel in my teeth that we’re in trouble. Unless we can fix things, the prey is going to overturn the natural order of things. We need an edge…”

"FOOLISH THING" Thundered Pantocrat at the scared axe-creature. "Your ignorance stinks to the highest vault of this world. You speak of the natural order of things, but there is only one order: the order of builders and destroyers. And however much you destroy, there will be new things built. You will destroy and destroy, hunt and kill, but you will learn that no matter how much you destroy, new, better things will be built, and soon what will be built is cages, to keep you like the beasts that are all destroyers. But i know your ignorance is not the fault of you but of fools who have taught before. Therefore, learn this new thing: The greater what you build, the Greater you Become. This is the secret of true adaptation: To add as you Adapt. This is Addaptation. Build, and become great, or perish before those who do.

"Today I will cause problems on purpose"

O'Steely, God of Axes
2/3 HP

O’Steely felt his time was coming to an end, he almost felt his divine quintessence burst from himself again were it not for that one last nudge from the Wisps to prevent further loss, but there was not much time left in this world before he returned to the ocean once again.

There was one last thing he wished to do, he had over the course of his time in Nowhere given three gifts to the People of Oneder one for each of the three races that lived on there to varying degrees of success but what they would do from there was anyone’s guess. But he he still had one more gift to give.

In the far north upon the roof of Oneder lied one of the two largest natural formations of Axe on the planetoid, on the very tip of this mountainous Cleaver O’Steely would prepare his last act as a God. He held in himself the formless shape of what he would turn into after his time ran out in Nowhere, the Remnant he would leave behind. He gripped this Remnant in his soul and imbued it with his divine essence to empower the next Person or Persons who laid claim to it with all three of his gifts plus one more for good measure.

The First Gift of Axes that he gave to the Plungerboa
The Second Gift of Axiom that he gave to the Aardiche
The Third Gift of Artifaxe that he gave to the Longclaw Asaurted

And lastly the Final Gift he had prepared for his next action, [The Fourth Gift of Axcension], the Spark of Heroism.

---

At the peak of the World the God O’Steely figuratively cupped his hands around his mouth and announced to Oneder to all who could hear.

”People of Oneder, the First Age of Gods nears its end, before long we shäll leave this world and what you do with what we have given to you is for you and you älone to decide. But I have one läst Gift to give.”

”Fär to the north of this world there is a greät mountäin of äxe embedded into the icy wastes, the Mättockhorn, upon this mountain I have placed an item of greät importänce, the Person or Persons who would cläim this item first will be empowered beyond mortäl ken with divine might and knowledge.”

But the task will not be easy, the road has been läid with challenges to test the gifts you had been given by the Gods of this äge, and to overcome them you must demonstrate understanding of them all to claim this prize. The tests will be difficult, the climate will be härsh, and the journey will be long but those with the mettle, couräge and wisdom to overcome these obstäcles will be rewarded greatly for their efforts.”

So to the Heroes and Adventurers of Oneder, will you rise to chällenge to cläim my Final Gift of Axcension?

O’Steely’s action this turn is two-fold, first he would like to imbue his Remnant to grant the first Person (or Persons) to claim it with the Spark of Heroism and mastery of his three gifts of Axe-fighting, Axiom and Artifaxe

Second he will issue a challenge to Oneder’s bravest adventurers, placing his Remnant in the far north he has seeded the ground around the huge axe there with challenges both physical, mental and spiritual to test any applicants for the three gifts of Axes, Axiom and Artifaxe in order to claim the Remnant for themselves. Prospective claimants must be able to demonstrate understanding of the gifts or creative solutions around them in order to pass the trials.

1d20 = 11

In this O’Steely expects one of two outcomes to occur. Either one Person who has mastery of his three gifts (or of creative cheating) will be able to claim the prize for themselves, proving that they were worthy of it in doing so. Or the three Peoples of Oneder will co-operate together to overcome the challenges and in doing so, prove the value of sharing knowledge and working together for a common goal. Or turn on each other to claim it for themselves.

Pandora, Goddess of Chaos [1HP]

quote:

”Oh, Gods… I can feel in my teeth that we’re in trouble. Unless we can fix things, the prey is going to overturn the natural order of things. We need an edge…”

"Look in the ink. The others remain ignorant of its strength in favor of their own blessings."
"Though I have doubts you can wield it, the magic of Warpweft contained within is yours..."
"...If you can cut the secrets of its use out for yourselves."
"I kid, of course."
"You seem clever, so I'll give you a clue to harnessing it for yourselves."
"Try using ink to engrave your tools handles, to coat the blades to improve their sharpening."
"Keep working with it, and perhaps you might get the edge you need."
"Or, if you're very persistent, even acquire Warpweft for a truly unparalleled axe."
"A shame I won't be there to see what you do with this, but I trust you'll stick with it."
"Or perish."
"Either or, really."
------
"Squilb, it is time."
"Your cousins you know have turned away, but there are others yet to know of my blessings."
"Long ago some squilb parted from the many, much as you have in accepting my gifts."
"These squilb would grow strange in their forgotten waters, strong, solitary, gigantic."
"These lost are the Krakink, and one has been chosen to carry on my legacy, to teach and bless and protect you from the dangers to come."
"They are the Tattooist; one as comfortable using warpweft on their own form as any other material."
"I hope they will prove enlightening in guiding your own changes to come."

Pandora gestures, and neon plants illuminate the streets.

"But there is still time I might remain here, and I would not want my parting to be a tragic one."
"To that end..."
"Let the festival of wild ascent begin!"
------
For the people of inkwell, it would only be one night.
But what a glorious night it would be.
Delights brought by the Myriad from places the squilb could only imagine, garish costumes to blur the border of what-is and could-be.
Those on the surface of Twomb, if they looked in the ink and listened, might even catch a snippet of song or a flickering light below.
Only the deviant squilb would see all the events to come in person, but all of Twomb would know
something was happening.
Even some of the "normal" squilb might come to see; not too closely, but close enough to see something approaching the city...

------
Throughout the festival a light could be seen in the distance, coming ever closer; and as the appointed hour approached, it could finally be seen...

...A single Krakink coming as promised, led by a procession of Myriad-possessed and Deviants just for the occasion.
As they crossed the border of inkfell, petals of warpwefted ice began to fall from above, glittering in the neon light.
Onward the procession would march, every resident young and old would come to see the parade march the garden spiral, down and down and down.
And at the gardens heart, the very place where the myriad had first come to Twomb, was Pandora.
They were cutting it close, but if they inherited one thing it was a sense of [flair].
Pandora would only get one chance; best to make sure it was a memorable one.
As the parade finally arrived, the Krakink swam forward.
It was all too [/i]gaudy for them, too loud and bright compared to their typical demesne.
But the promises made were great indeed, and if even a fraction were delivered they would find it a worthwhile trip.
Pandora made one final speech, the typical promises of love and bounty to all squilb were renewed, and at last, it was time.
The lights dimmed, and the festival grew quiet.
The Krakink bowed to the Goddess, and in turn the goddess dispersed into the ink; their remaining divinity passed on.
All that was left was to wait and see...

Pandora infuses the Tattooist with all their remaining divinity!: 1d20 7

The lights return, and the music starts, pauses, and starts again.
The festivities would continue, though there was a tenseness to them.
Pandora was gone, and already there were concerns the Krakink could even hold their newfound power for long; nevermind fulfilling Pandoras promises...
