I moved to a suburb (Blaine) in 2010 and got a bike. My first ride, which was on a sidewalk, someone drove by and yelled gently caress You out of their pickup. The sidewalk was parallel to the street, so there was no interference. When I was back in that area after ~6 years, I saw they put stop signs in the sidewalks, obligating pedestrians to stop for cars. Awful.

I wouldn't bike on the streets (or apparently even next to them) in the twin cities burbs besides maybe some first ring ones.

Hell, I once got stopped by a cop for walking, in the day, on a sidewalk. During a snowstorm! Just being an rear end in a top hat while I’m making my way to an appointment! The fight that’s beginning to take place over Summit Ave in St. Paul. The people with opinions usually have no loving idea what it’s like to bike on that street.

lol, i was running with my dog across a 4 lane crosswalk, and when i cleared the first lane a car making a right lurched behind me, and i turned around in surprise and he stopped and gave me a death glare. i then gestured at the crosswalk sign in disbelief. driving is hard.
