Yeah what the last guy said. When real-world corporations go through this sort of thing, they handle the mayhem behind the scenes and by the time the public catches wind of it, they already have new leadership in place to field questions/explain what will be different in order to (hopefully) minimize disruption to the business.

I have no idea how this works with relation to internet spaceship guilds though lol

No idea, I haven't logged on since GSF was in Deklein.

In deployment, out of deployment, it doesn't really matter. I'm guessing GSF IT poo poo is sprawling, largely undocumented, and complex. If it's determined a personnel change is needed, potentially lengthy in-game events shouldn't delay that change.

Some brief :words: before I slightly impale myself.

I had a lot of fun in Eve. I made a lot of friends. I was really intrigued by all the behind-the-scenes poo poo and desperately wanted to see more. At a goonp, I pressured Sion to find a role for me to be more useful. He shoehorned me into Blawrf McTaggart's recon group. It wasn't much longer before Blawrf was gone, and I became a mainstay of GSRecon. I was running a lot of recon poo poo as a subdir. Then, one morning, I woke up to messages of "rest in piss" and invites into illum. Suddenly, I found myself in a position I was unqualified for, and inevitably failed miserably at. I was the director of GSRecon. By the end of the Casino War, GSRecon was a mess, we couldn't keep eyes on stagers let alone follow enemy fleet movements, and I was stretched so thin I couldn't handle it. I bring all this up because I feel it's decent context for the part where I set myself on fire.

I'm about to stake out an apparently very unpopular opinion, and I don't care if it costs me :tenbux: or the respect of other people I also consider to be my friend (though it will make me sad).

Innominate is a genuinely good human, and he's getting a raw deal from this scandal. I understand the desire to burn the whole loving thing to the ground, I really do. But his mistakes are not ones of malice, but being jammed into a role he isn't right for. And I loving relate to that, pretty god drat hard.

I could see this as to why he is bad at fielding HR stuff but it doesn't explain the Azov rant or the lack of ability to realise he hosed up when it was very clearly pointed out to him.

You can stand up for the inominate you knew, and no-one is going to ban you for doing it. I have no personal experience with him- My only interaction with him was when I contacted him about the transphobic jokes in corp mail and the only actions I have to judge him on are that he ignored that incident completely, he mismanaged/ignored the initial incident with mcwolf, and his only contribution to the dicussion since this all began was to come in here and angrily tell someone that what they said happened didn't happen and they should post proof. they posted proof and he has not been seen since.

bad at his job? yes I fully agree. a good person despite all that? it doesn't appear so. drunken anti-semetic rants and a complete lack of ownership or remorse for his mistakes and/or transgressions cannot be handwaved as "gathering his thoughts". and stepping down silently with no accountability is not a noble gesture either.

Fair, fair. Though I would still say a sufficiently motivated person with access and some knowledgeable friends could probably spin up a sizable set of parallel systems. Much easier than trying to wrest control of the originals directly.

assuming it's built like I'd think it is, yes, that's a central pillar

* directory services (users) - everything touches this in some fashion, whether it's doing authentication or just getting forums account names to tie to other poo poo
** esi - IIRC this uses a different password so it may not authenticate against directory services but it's pulling forums names and associating them to your characters
** SRP
** jabber + mumble
** wiki
** forums
** email/alerting of some sort

There's also been a fair amount of custom development done with this stuff, like the ESI and SRP apps, possibly a bit on the forums, and then there's the effort in configuring everything and making sure it doesn't break when a couple thousand goons are beating on it at the same time. Most professional computer touchers don't also want to do it for free in their spare time, so maintaining GSF's IT infrastructure isn't something a bunch of people are going to jump forward to do, much less sifting through the pile of what's already there and trying to disentangle and migrate it to other platforms
