I played through all of the games in Origins without too many issues. It's far from perfect and I wish they had more time with it. But from what I can tell it's not nearly as big of a mess as Colours HD was.

Wait they replaced 3&Ks soundtrack? Aka one of the best soundtracks of all time? That soundtrack? If that’s the case I can 100% say origins is not worth a penny.
Carnival Night, Ice Cap and Launch Base. And I think one of the competition menu tracks? Not the whole thing. You can mod them back in on PC fairly easily.

Also the aforementioned invincibility theme for some reason.

If you're on PC you might as well play A.I.R. alongside S1F and S2A.

Yeah I haven’t experienced any particularly gamebreaking glitches in Origins to be fair, just a few minor annoyances at best

I have not even noticed the minor issues honestly.

The glitches seem to be wildly overblown. I've played through each 3 times so far & haven't many issues. The Tails AI glitch in 2 is unbearable though, hope they fix it soon.

yeah tails' ai in 2 was the only thing i really noticed. and of the replaced music, the only real loss is ice cap

didn't have any problems with colors ultimate either

You could always just play as Sonic or Tails alone (though I believe in Story Mode you don’t have that particular option)

i played as knuckles and tails for the novelty but all it really accomplished was making the special stages harder lol

Yeah it only became an issue a bit after the time of the standalone steam release, which iirc was the last one prior to origins. It's unknown why but safe to say it's somebody being a pain about royalties or sega just not wanting to deal with any of that after already having to do so with sonic 1 music and such.

The prototype Carnival Night and Launch Base have already supplanted the Jackson tracks in my mind. Ice Cap not so much but I'm sure it'll get there

The best theory I've heard is that it was in the past 10 years that YouTubers and sonic fans started actually getting in contact with people like Brad Buxer and Scirocco Jones and other composers who had forgotten the affair entirely, thereby sort of rousing the beast.

Yeah, honestly the only major glitch I've encountered is the Tails' AI glitch, but it's bad enough to affect my enjoyment of the game as a whole. While I can obviously just play as Sonic or Tails alone, I still like having a little buddy following along behind me. The swapped music sucks, but I bought the Steam version and there's already a mod to restore the original tracks so I don't mind.

I think players in general make way too much fuss about glitches in games. While I understand the sentiment from a consumer protection perspective (Game companies should really be doing proper QA before pushing a product out the door) it just feels like way too many people work on this binary of the game is either completely finished and polished upon release, or its a buggy, unplayable mess that's a personal affront to them personally.

I liked the prototype Launch Base more than the Jackson one even back when those were just the weird PC Port midis, it's honestly a great pair of tracks. And all three are better for actually having an Act 2 theme rather than just repeating the Act 1 music with some audio tracks muted.

I think the only reason the PC port had different music was because of the difficulty of getting the sample-heavy MJ tracks to work on SoundBlaster cards, not legal issues.

I played it on steam, and I had most of the reported stuff happen in one playthrough of the story mode. Tails isn't even that bad. He's just a little more jumpy than he was in the originals. And that's easy enough to ignore. But stuff like losing 13 emeralds after an act 1 boss is kind of unforgivable.

Ah yeah, I remember hearing that now (though it does make me wonder what the transition from Mushroom Hill to Sandopolis would have been)

In the level plan sketches you can unlock in Origins, you enter a big tree in Mushroom Hill and come out of it in Sandopolis for some reason. But those sketches are extremely early ideas for the levels from before Knuckles even had a name, and have some unused stuff like the Flying Battery boss being fought while sliding down a mountain in Icecap Zone rather than having the snowboard transition.

The other theory I've seen is that after Jackson passed his estate got real protective/litigious over his works - which lines up with S3 ports ceasing to come out shortly after his death.

I know it's been said that Jackson himself didn't write anything for the game but some of the melodies/chord progressions got reworked into MJ songs later by Buxer and co so there's probably some weird legal calvinball going on.

i never got stuck on the barrel, i just really really hate the bouncy sonic levels. they are aggressively unfun and bad, the lack of control you have over your character is just hot fuckin garbage. spring yard is the worst zone in sonic 1 by far, carnival night is the worst zone in sonic 3 by far, and wacky workbench is the worst level in any game ever made.

casino night only gets a pass because of the slot machines.

Marble Zone is the worst Sonic 1 zone.

The Tails/Knuckles route in Act 3 makes it much more tolerable these days though.

DEEP STATE PLOT
Aug 13, 2008

Yes...Ha ha ha...YES!

marble zone is worse in terms of where it is in the level line-up and maybe more damaging to the game's overall quality as it drives the momentum to a total halt both literally and figuratively, and i think they were absolutely out of their mind putting that boring slog as the second zone in the game, but i'd still rather be bored in marble (or labyrinth) than irritated in spring yard.

Relyssa

Marble Zone is boring, Spring Yard has kind of a poo poo boss but is otherwise unremarkable and also has the weird COPE messages everywhere, Labyrinth Zone is actively unenjoyable to play through and if you aren't aware of the SBZ3 skip you have to do a fourth act of it.

Well, introducing my daughter to the Genesis sonic games has gone poorly, I did it with a controller + the Sonic 2 iOS port on iPad and we ran into a nasty bug. The platforms on wing fortress just.... don't spawn or move or do anything. It's a dead end where the only option is death. I've found some people griping about it, but not much talk about it being a bug. This is pretty close to what I'm seeing: https://www.reddit.com/r/SonicTheHedgehog/comments/raaqi4/i_hate_the_wing_fortress_platforms_it_feels_like/

These platforms should open one after the other, right?
