But I can't tell if this is "A Thing Is Going To Happen" or if it's just a rich liberal unable to see how poor families are struggling right now.

Sinfest Sunday! Rigidly enforced societal gender roles are bad, but also it's bad to break away from those roles for some reason I guess? Also, robots. ....what? ..........I guess he just wanted to draw some butts this week? Nerdy zombie has a point though, kind of lovely to just automatically discount his argument because of what he is (which kind of proves what he was saying about concepts of "normal" being harmful to marginalized groups)

Not knowing what the "reality zone" is (I assume that there's lore about it), this just looks like Ishida is admitting that the zombie strawmen that he made up aren't real, while the bigots are.

The Reality Zone was originally just a place where the characters were portrayed in a more "realistic" style than their usual cartoony selves when they entered for a punchline. Of course, like everything else, it has been transformed into "Proof that my opinion is actually right and correct and facts don't care about your pronouns."

Nah, the actual punchline is the line of people ready to punch Ishida in the face. It does read as "this is the place where facts don't care about your feelings", a place where essentialism is real and where trans people burst into flames because they are not real.

The nonbinary = plain beige everything is purely a product of rainbow capitalism. It's like some product designer heard about the concept of people being nonbinary but never actually saw or met such a person. I guess it's to be expected, as the Conservative viewpoint is that rainbow capitalism is the queer agenda. They don't see the disconnect between the real people and the corporate pandering, because they want to believe that a pride flag mickey mouse pin means that the gays have vast power and control disney. While of course, the real life gays are more concerned with Disney's donations to people who are actively trying to erase queer people from existence.

The Boys has some extraordinarily blunt satire in this vein. Some truly wonderful good actors acting like bad actors stuff, a lot of painfully explicit branding, etc. It still managed to be read incorrectly by the show's conservative fans. The fact that The Boys has conservative fans (who think it's one of theirs) really does a lot to underline the importance of media literacy.

He's right, though. Like his argument isn't even some ridiculous over-exaggeration of the real life, correct argument, it's just correct. Normally you shouldn't draw your strawmen making good, correct arguments! This is like, the reverse of DASGC. You drew your enemy as calm, well spoken, neatly dressed, making a convincing argument, and working out on the streets for their fellow man. Meanwhile, your side is represented by a weird immature literal demon spouting dismissive, childish, broken English and riding opulently in a chauffeured car owned by the actual loving devil. A demon who has in the past been depicted as being very callous and insensitive about other people's desires, inner lives, and identities, in a way even the strip condemns. And "your" response to the good argument isn't even to rebuke it but to just run away. This makes Ishida look stupid from every drat angle. the_steve posted:The Reality Zone was originally just a place where the characters were portrayed in a more "realistic" style than their usual cartoony selves when they entered for a punchline.
