Important limitation in Amazon's TOS: https://aws.amazon.com/service-terms/ quote:42.10. Acceptable Use; Safety-Critical Systems. Your use of the Lumberyard Materials must comply with the AWS Acceptable Use Policy. The Lumberyard Materials are not intended for use with life-critical or safety-critical systems, such as use in operation of medical equipment, automated transportation systems, autonomous vehicles, aircraft or air traffic control, nuclear facilities, manned spacecraft, or military use in connection with live combat. However, this restriction will not apply in the event of the occurrence (certified by the United States Centers for Disease Control or successor body) of a widespread viral infection transmitted via bites or contact with bodily fluids that causes human corpses to reanimate and seek to consume living human flesh, blood, brain or nerve tissue and is likely to result in the fall of organized civilization.

Mister Speaker posted:Truth. Wakeboarding douches are the bane of small-lake cottage country. Apart from creating wakes that disturb everyone, they cut too close to shore, causing undue erosion and sometimes knocking out pumps that supply water to small cottages. They are a problem here in Portland as well so our local radio station was interviewing a wakeboarder about new laws banning it in certain areas and he said, "I am worried that wakeboarding will be banned everywhere which would mean I couldn't hand down my craft to my kids." LOL!

Phanatic posted:Important limitation in Amazon's TOS: What kind of hosed up wood is Amazon selling that can trigger a zombie apocalypse and why do they seemingly condone it? I mean if they have contingencies that allows them to continue operating during a zombie apocalypse, that's certainly one way to wipe out the competition (as if they didn't need yet another method to do so) though that plan falls apart if the banks, payment processors, and the internet collapse in the process. https://github.com/aws/lumberyard

I think they don't have a frame of reference for it and are so used to lighter fluid they think it's gonna light and then whoosh, instead of just straight explode.

Isn't gas labeled as an explosive but diesel is just flammable? To start burn piles here in the PNW it was recommended to me by by a forest service employee to use old motor oil, not sure if that's legit or not.

Old motor oil is a good starter since you don't need much and it doesn't vaporize or otherwise explode when lit. It isn't really great but it's safer than gasoline or other accelerants. And most used motor oil is burned (in specialized heaters) so it's where it's going anyway.

Used to start the burn pile at the sawmill with a toilet paper roll soaked in diesel. Diesel is perfect for starting fires.

What exactly happened in that Osprey accident? I'm not downloading the report because it's 147MB, but I'm guessing it got into a situation where one rotor was over the deck and one wasn't, and the aerodynamics were so different it ran out of control authority?

It realized it's an Osprey and attempted to kill everyone inside it and everyone it could reach outside it.

I'm not downloading the report because it's 147MB, but I'm guessing it got into a situation where one rotor was over the deck and one wasn't, and the aerodynamics were so different it ran out of control authority? This was a quick summary I found. quote:The investigation outlines a complex but low-risk mission. The Marine Corps determined the aircraft crashed due to facing too much downwash and not having the thrust to hold its hover, but the aircraft may also have been carrying too much weight, a Defense Department official told USNI News. Naval Air Systems Command engineers have since looked at the effect of the downwash on a landing aircraft and the amount of power the Osprey needs to overcome that downwash and land safely, and have since made some adjustments regarding how much weight an Osprey may carry on approach to a U.S. ship at sea to ensure it has the power it needs to land, the official said. The investigation report makes clear that no one was at fault in the incident and that all three personnel died in the line of duty and not due to misconduct.
