The funny thing is this is only the first or second big heatwave of the climate change era, the next ones in following years are going to be so much worse. Hahha. lol

Is it even a heat wave if it only lasts two days? Get drunk and pass out under a fan for awhile. The way people were talking I thought it was expected to last weeks or something.

Where I live it wouldn’t be considered a heatwave as a heatwave is defined as 3 consecutive days over 40C (104f) or 5 consecutive days over 35C (95f) but I think it’s up to whatever meteorological organisation a country has it’s a bad omen for the rest of the world but the way the British media is acting is pretty lol

The airport runways have melted, the country is not built for this

Last summer it broke 110, the roads started buckling, power lines melted, and some peoples' vinyl siding on their houses melted. We do not have infrastructure designed for an entire week of temperatures where the lowest temp for that week was 9 degrees warmer than the previous all time high temperature recorded

i guess the real answer to your question is: you can either pay someone to come out and measure and build them, do it yourself, or buy some kind of magnetic/duct tape contraption off of amazon

tons of American houses are new and have one of a few standard window dimensions, also they’ve been standard in at least southern houses forever. I imagine it’s harder when many buildings are over a hundred years old and window sizes are kinda whatever
|
# ? Jul 19, 2022 07:09 |

Standard sizes has nothing to do with it. Making window screens of custom size is super easy. You get these long tubes and cut them with a hacksaw to the side lengths of your window. Attach the sides with corner bits. Cut the screen itself roughly to the correct dimensions and secure it by rolling these squishy rubber strips (spline) into the channels in the frame over the top of the screen. (You can tell that this is a quality product because “SMOOTH” is two of its four qualities.) This is for windows already built with slots to hold screens and their frames. You’re going to have to retrofit some sort of attachment if your windows have never had screens.

Just got an excessive heat advisory here even though it's been like 102+ for something like 30 days in a row. On the one hand like gently caress you guys I know it is hot. On the other I guess it is a couple extra degrees today so thanks for the heads up I will go outside even less (this isn't possible.)
