I wonder if the US will ever redraw the map to accurately show the coastlines? It's already a hilarious fantasy; how much stupider will it look in 2050? 2075?

Climate change is exacerbating pressures on every Australian ecosystem and Australia now has more foreign plant species than native, according to the highly anticipated State of the Environment Report released today.

1. Australia’s environment is generally deteriorating
2. Climate change threatens every ecosystem
3. Indigenous knowledge and management are helping deliver on-ground change
4. Environmental management isn’t well coordinated
5. Environmental decline and destruction is harming our well-being

In an email to CTV News, a group who identifies themselves as “Tyre Extinguishers” claims they flattened the tires of 60 SUVs in multiple locations across Waterloo region.

The group says their goal is to ban SUVs from urban areas and calls the vehicles “climate disasters.”

“We’re taking this action because governments and politicians have failed to protect us from these huge vehicles. Everyone hates them, apart from the people who drive them,” the email said in part. “We want to live in towns and cities with clean air and safe streets. Politely asking and protesting for these things has failed. It’s time for action.”

The group noted they are aware the inconvenience the deflated tires will pose for drivers

“We know people will be frustrated, upset, and/or very angry at us. Unfortunately, we do not have any time to waste in reducing our emissions. The people whose tires we have deflated will be inconvenienced, but ultimately, will be able to get around by using public transit, walking, or cycling like so many other residents of the Waterloo Region do,” Tyre Extinguishers said.

Data analysis of satellite mapping showed that Tangier Island had lost nearly 62 percent of its upland area since 1967.
...................

The study paints a disquieting picture for Tangier Island. More than two-thirds of the island’s land mass is gone. Most individual properties now contain wetland areas. Two of the islands’ ridges are expected to become wetland in the 2030s, with the third expected to succumb by 2051, the paper states.

The rate of relative sea level rise has accelerated. A model of Tangier’s population decline, which predicts a total exodus by 2053, shows that it trends similarly to the decline in habitable land.

The 2,000-page State of the Environment report, commissioned by the government, found or reiterated:

Nineteen ecosystems are on the brink of collapse
There are now more non-native plant species in Australia than native ones
Australia has lost more species to extinction than any other continent
All bar one category of environment examined has deteriorated since 2016, and more than half are now in a "poor" state.
"If we continue on the trajectory that we are on, the precious places, landscapes, animals and plants that we think of when we think of home may not be here for our kids and grandkids," Ms Plibersek said.

The koala and gang-gang cockatoo are among more than 200 animal and plant species with upgraded threats since 2016. Many of those species are unique to Australia.

In recent years, Australia has suffered severe drought, historic bushfires, successive years of record-breaking floods, and six mass bleaching events on the Great Barrier Reef.

"In previous reports, we've been largely talking about the impacts of climate in the future tense," Professor Emma Johnston, another report chief author, told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

"In this report there's a stark contrast, because we are now documenting widespread impacts of climate change."
