rand paul blew up the anti abortion judge deal between biden and mitch because mitch didnt let him in on the deal.
"We have no reason to be opposed to Chad Meredith, other than we want at least the courtesy of … the minority leader thinking that he’s not so important that he doesn’t have to talk to his fellow state senator,” Paul told reporters.

You'd think they'd put some effort into understanding Republican voters given their entire electoral strategy is this constant game of moving to the right in order to win over "moderate Republicans". The only conclusion I can come to is that they want to imagine that those mythical Republican swing voters are basically decent people (ie. like them) and that illusion disappears when you actually get to know them.

they understand moderate republicans as david brooks and ross douthat

since Paul’s initia election I‘ve always wondered how much McConnell and Paul actually dislike each other (or not)

from Paul’s initial election in 2010:
https://www.politico.com/story/2010/11/paul-we-will-challenge-mcconnell-044554?_amp=true

quote:

“We will challenge him from day to day, but there will be many areas in which we agree,” Paul said during an appearance Tuesday on CNN’s “American Morning.”

“Most Republicans think we’re spending too much, the deficit’s too high. But sometimes when we’ve gotten in power, we’ve gone along and not really stayed the course,” he added. “I will be one who will say to Republicans in my party, ‘We do need to stay the course and go ahead and balance our budget.’”

McConnell endorsed Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson in the GOP primary. But in an interview with POLITICO on Monday, the Senate minority leader predicted a Paul victory and said he looked forward to working with the tea party favorite in the Senate.

biden's approval ratings consistently have been the highest (rather, his least low ratings) among the wealthiest than among any other income group, including poors.

Fifth, Trump still maintains that he won the 2020 election. Once he is an official candidate, every Republican running for any office from governor to deputy assistant dogcatcher is going to be asked: "Who won the 2020 presidential election?" An answer of: "Trump won" is not going to sit will with independents or suburban women, but any other answer is going to get Trump to start yelling: "RINO" at the candidate, thus reducing Republican turnout.

There are two theories of how to win elections. One is that you need to win over centrist voters. The other is that you need to rally your base. Not coincidentally, the theories chosen by each party mean that the Republicans try to win by going further to the right, and the Democrats also try to win by going further to the right.

I had a thought earlier about the future of the democrats. Because of the way the two parties have rigged the federal election system, the democrats will become irrelevant but probably never die. Any phoenix rising from the ashes poo poo will have to be done through the husk of the democratic party, which will be helmed by people in safe seats like Schumer and Pelosi.

Sure but any route to real power won't go through those political pathways anyway. It has always been a fantasy that a Socialist President will get elected and then the revolution will begin, the political fights are going to happen from Dems+repubs working together w/police to crush mass, organized labor as it develops a independent political program in different pockets around the country.

it’s cool how the serious opinion havers are still basically implying trump is playing some masterful game of political chess to save his hide like he’s Netanyahu instead of acknowledging the correct metaphor is him flipping over the chessboard and saying “you’re a fuckin nerd and I win” and they all meekly say “okay okay you win”
