getting a ham licence is extremely easy since they give out all the (multiple choice) questions in the test bank

just study something like this free PDF here: https://www.kb6nu.com/study-guides/ and enroll in a basically free test session

knowing how to use a ham radio is a very cspam relevant skill

lots of bold claims being made by the scientific community, in fact we post about them a lot here. just this one wasn't a very good one. "the world of 2060 will be unrecognizable" is a pretty bold claim and the ipcc has done the leg work to back it up.

generally if you're going to have a huge paper that says "the atmosphere will be toxic to breathe in 50 years" what you do is you publish the modeling work - the nitty gritty poo poo - in a couple of papers then you publish the big conclusions paper that cites your already published models and makes the point you want to make.

these waste-water consultants turned plankton scientists skipped the whole "get our modeling peer reviewed step" and went straight to the "make a huge splash by getting our local paper to write up our unreviewed research"

like it isn't that hard to find *somewhere* to get your paper peer reviewed, and im sure that somewhere legit if not prestige, like idk a scottish water quality conference, would have accepted that paper even. im serious when i say this thread could write a paper and get it published at the level of quality of that plankton paper.

Time for me to start downloading some backup content for when NetflixPornhub goes dark.

Having Porn download on a back up hard drive is not a bad idea. I really should download a bunch of survival books/classic literature and get them downloaded on both my kindle and buy a back up kindle just to be on the safe side. I still think (hope) we get about 10 years left of normal in US if you have a good computer touching job. I need that much time to prep to be comfortable and ride out everything going to poo poo. Just got probed for a day for daring to say in D&D that private jets and the way billionaires use them is worse than people eating meat, and that being vegan and having kids has a higher negative impact than me eating locally sourced meat. It was a 24 hour probe for "being anti kid and quoting something from over 24 hours ago". (It was one page back).

hmm to start with i was just planning on throwing down some local plants, wildflowers, and perennials; low maintenance stuff that's not really for my benefit. i am also willing to plant some more delicate stuff and give it the care it needs to get established if necessary. there's no natural water nearby

i was thinking of dipping my toes in farming next year, but i would literally be starting from scratch and learning as i go so i might just start with raised planters. still, that's definitely something i'm looking into for the not-too-distant future, so at this point i'm wondering whether i should rehab the entire acre now and convert some of it to farmland later, or leave the portion of future farmland as grass for now

Here in California, shredded redwood bark mulch is the best thing to prevent your house igniting.

Redwood has built in fire suppressant.
