Truss is going to make inflation much worse and generally gently caress things up a lot. The 'bright side' is that she'll so incompetent and reviled that it'll be PM Keith in 2 years. Hooray.

wild theorising time... the rumour doing the rounds is sunak wanted truss in the final matchup and lent her support in the previous round accordingly; how else do you explain half of the ultra-wet anti-boris Tugendhat's support now switching to the hard brexit 'continuity-boris' Truss? On current polling Sunak loses to both Mordaunt and Truss in the member vote but since he is almost completely ideologically aligned with the former it would just be a battle over personality where his money and slick PR machine would make hay. Sunak versus Truss is an actual ideological battle and one where the ground (the membership) is not in his favour. Therefore Sunak isn't expecting to get to the member vote... becasue he has photos.

Looking forward to a PM more vacant than Boris Johnson over the past week. Someone posted a long post itt recently about how Labour are more right wing than centre, with lots of links talking about how poo poo they are. Can anyone recall or is there a special cheat sheet I can print out and keep in my sock for future family occasions?

It’s quite impressive that having already provided the worst PM in living memory twice in a row, the Tories are going for the hat trick with Truss.

I think Truss really has a chance to revitalise conservative politics with a fresh approach. For too long, Tory PMs have relied on a simple "lack of shame" approach to allow them to lie and kill with ever–greater efficiency. This approach reached its peak with Boris; how could anyone hope to succeed him? Truss shows us how — combine shamelessness with the sheer might of stupidity, and you've got a truly formidable creature that you can't reliably catch in a lie because you can't ever be sure she's actually understood the words she's said. I'm very excited to see where this emerging trend of increasingly thick PMs takes us over the next decade.

The health service budget probably needs doubled at this point, between pay, staffing, the complete inadequacy of mental health care, the collapse of social care into a minimum wage job on zero hour contracts which is causing the massive backlogs in hospitals, reversing the stealth privatisation that has gone on for 4 decades, the explicit starve the beast attitude of neoliberals. It's loving grim, I highly doubt there will be much of an NHS left by the time I kick the bucket in 30-40 years.
