I have no idea how you could extrapolate what I’m writing about the white middle-class radicalizing toward patriarchy and ecofascism, the petit-bourgeois, as the historically oppressed and marginalized people you mentioned.

Whitey is still the dominant monoculture in this demon cracker nation, and we’d be foolish not to plan for his further insane lashing-outs as material conditions degrade with climate change.

Expert estimates of (a) global biodiversity loss and (b, c) its impacts. (a) Medians of estimates and upper and lower bounds for past biodiversity loss (white circles, lines) and future biodiversity loss by 2100 if current trends continue (rightward gray arrows) or if conservation efforts are increased (leftward gray arrows). Where available, IUCN estimates are shown (red lines). (b) Expert estimates (black) as well as lower (blue) and upper (red) bounds for impacts of three levels of biodiversity loss (jittered on the x-axis). (c) Combining estimates of past biodiversity loss (a) and its impacts (b, linearly interpolated) shows the estimated impacts of past biodiversity loss. Sample sizes show the number of responses, which do not always sum to the total because respondents were not required to answer all questions.

Expert estimates of changes in global biodiversity in terrestrial biomes (left column) and marine realms (right column) since 1500 (top row), by 2100 if current trends continue (middle row), or by 2100 if conservation efforts are intensified (bottom row). Values represent medians across all responses received from experts investigating biodiversity in each terrestrial biome and marine realm and are shown for terrestrial biomes and marine realms with at least ten responses (minimum = 11, median = 35, maximum = 470 responses per biome or realm). See WebFigure 2 for additional marine and freshwater habitats.

(a) Expert rankings of drivers of biodiversity loss, (b) their synergistic interactions, and (c) top-ranked drivers by ecosystem type and taxa. (a) Low numbers correspond to large impacts on biodiversity. Experts indicated biodiversity loss is driven primarily by changes in land use and sea use resulting from production and consumption patterns and human population growth. (b) Dark colors indicate that many experts expected the pair of drivers to synergistically reduce biodiversity to a greater degree than the sum of their individual effects. See WebTable 4 for tests of significant differences in rankings and WebFigures 5 and 6 for driver rankings by habitat.

Demographic and geographic groups of experts provided (a) different estimates of biodiversity loss and its impacts, (b) similar rankings of drivers, and (c) different recommended top priorities for conservation budgets. Symbols, lines, and colors in (a) and (b) match those in Figure 1 and Figure 3, respectively. Genders were self-identified. NCP = nature’s contributions to people. See WebTable 2 for other genders with small sample sizes. For gross domestic product (GDP) comparisons, countries were grouped into high-income countries or all other income groups, following the World Bank’s classification for 2020. For career stage, the number of years of related work post-PhD is provided.

the plastic straws thing - I don't remember if it was in this thread or elsewhere, but I seem to remember all of the figures about how many tons of plastic in straws make their way into the oceans coming from like a high schooler's science fair project or something similar? Did I dream this?

not that we shouldn't get rid of plastic straws anyway, but in retrospect it seems like the perfect non-solution to climate change: slightly alter one practice to generate less waste while leaving all of the waste that surrounds that one practice totally unexamined.

thanks man. i just kinda barged in and saw someone contradicting my line (and slandering rime, who i like), tried to post a correction. turns out it was the single dumbest worst hill to die on maybe ever.

the ruthless critical analysis of every existing thing (starting and ending with oneself) means exactly that.

technically, the reason for the perma wasn't that post. i slammed my site at the mods directly, explained what i was doing, and told them to perma me if they don't want me around. they poked around on it for a bit, and indeed - i am too much of a wackadoodle doomer even for the biosphere collapse thread. it would be in everyone's interests if i never return!

i have not and will never voluntarily watch an anime.

awwww yeah now we're getting the good stuff. i'm honored to made the all time top worst posts list! in the meantime, we are literally, factually, actually enjoying a planet to death. with this undeniable fact in mind, surely you can agree: there is something extremely hosed up about our current mode(s) of enjoyment. an constructive question arises - what kinds of enjoyment do not contribute to omnicide? can we imagine a world where we enjoy repairing our shared planet, rather than destroying it?

that's the context that i was writing in. maybe you should update yours for the post-holocene.

and de sade was many things, but i mentioned him specifically because he was among the first to submit his desire/enjoyment loop to something like an empirical practice. what he discovered was this: enjoyment is an amoral mechanism, and if you follow it to the end, you can enjoy anything. this is not an argument for or against the morality of any of those things, it is an explanation for why the enjoyment of said things exists in the first place.

which leads me back to zode. how ya doin big guy?

if you'd read anything on my site, you'd know that i'm a radical materialist, not an idealist. interestingly enough, when you push materialism all the way to the end, you don't get 'everything is permitted', you get this:

nothing is permitted.

de sade was de sade so that we could learn from his example without becoming him. the lesson is this: because enjoyment has no moral content, when pushed to its end, the pursuit of enjoyment turns us into monsters. turns out, he was right; and now we're a sapient extinction event.

the only ethical stance then is to try to escape enjoyment altogether, which leads us to my prime ethical directive (insofar as we want to attempt to be revolutionary subjects):

this is an ethical suspension of morality, but it goes to the militant discipline of 'nothing is permitted' rather than the hedonistic cliff of 'everything is permitted'. this is a figure of a totally uncompromising celibate warrior monk, not jeffrey loving epstein.

so then: insofar as we are serious about being revolutionary subjects in the 21c (lol), it is our duty to stop both ourselves and others from enjoying a mass extinction event. this is the position i'm arguing from; and i'll admit - i really hadn't considered or thought about the ramifications when applied to sexual deviants when i made that post.

so the choice either an unpricipled idealist 'let people enjoy', or a principled materialist 'all enjoyment is suspect'. in political terms: ecosocialism or extinction.

ya that was prolly me. that was a good post. 'how do you want to die? jerking off in front of the screen that stunted and enslaved you, or striding across the wasteland with your comrades, filled with red purpose?' something like that.

no conflation, just observing the same effect. i advance an amoral ethical line into enemy territory, and get demonized even tho i'm explicitly not supporting or justifying, just explaining and analyzing.

yeah you're getting it. i was saying what i've elucidated here: all enjoyment is hosed up. especially here of all places. our successors (if there are any) are going to be the ones who succesfully learned how to not-enjoy enjoying and enjoy not-enjoying.

motherfucker i'm a truth seeker attempting to advance a systematic 21c historical truth process into the world. i take truth very seriously. and again - insofar as we are ethical materialists, nothing is permitted.

what i said was that anything can be enjoyed. and that in lieue of stopping people enjoying a planet to death, the alternative is to let people enjoy. and that got interpretted as me tangentially defending anime kid torture porn, or something.

i'm glad i'm making you guys think.

:glomp: thanks for not throwing me under the bus man. i'm assuming i'm gonna get another insta-perma for this, so i'm gonna take a break from SA, maybe go find a therapist who knows how to treat 'addicted to line struggle on the internet'. i'll keep throwing stuff up on the site for anybody who's interested, and i'm on twitter too.

you guys are all still ridiculous naive little libs with the morality of 19c victorian housewives, but i'll miss you anyways.
