This isn't a funny or breathtaking tweet really, but as someone who enjoyed No Man's Sky even at launch, seeing it come so far and get one of the most violently angry receptions (not entirely unjustified!) I've ever seen to a launch turn into a story of stumbling but persevering, and just adding more and more free stuff to their game, winning over a lot of folks who scorned it initially, is cool. https://mobile.twitter.com/NoMansSky/status/1549777330167480325 Like the general sentiment went from "how can you like no man's sky, its trash" initially, to "man, I hear they really turned things around with that game, that's awesome!", and it's rare for something to recover like that on the internet.

Johnny had "cybernetic surgery" and as a data courier is now carrying 320 gigabytes of data in his head, exceeding his capacity. The kind of thing you'd put on an USB-stick these days.

It used to be a thing where celebrities would do weird commercials in Japan because the idea was it was good money and wouldn't affect their reputation in America because nobody would see them. Then the Internet happened.

also twin peaks was huge in japan, like possibly more popular than in the united states - part of a general bundle i guess of interest in small town america, weird loving people, and occult bullshit, all of which made it an interesting media import the twin peaks movie fire walk with me screened at cannes but then was released in japan months before it was released in the united states, with a special promo push and everything https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gXLO5rzJ8U if you want to see more of david lynch directing commercials, which is a thing he did for a while until the world realized capitalism was too lame to let that happen, then look around for more of these https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5UVCuV6pzU

Puma? gently caress THAT poo poo! A! DI! DAS!" I wonder if Cronenberg ever did ads? Hoping some idiot art director got him to do a car ad around 1996. (Just found out Cronenberg turned down 'Flashdance', 'Return of the Jedi' and 'Top Gun'. Darth Vader would be a pretty good Cronenberg character, thinking about it. I'm not sure where Cronenberg's 'Top Gun' would have gone - maybe something like the 'Tetsuo: Iron man' films...)

Japanese ads are great because you get big time Hollywood celebrities to do commercials which they basically can't do in the US https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LE21qQHlOLQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iK25AqxUVI8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCkI323J9K4
