Wouldn't be surprised if there's more to it than this, but I typically see concrete structures split into multiple sections to allow for thermal expansion and contraction.

Also occurs to me it could be a place that doesn't see freezes. Besides all that they may have made cuts that aren't shown and it looks to me like it's just decorative so they may not be too concerned about its structural integrity.

I don't really know about concrete that much so I'm curious

There aren't any control joints in the video, but they might go back and do that later.

It looks like a bloody planter trim, it's been laid directly on dirt with no work around it. The earthworms won't care if there's a crack, the only thing it's expected to hold back is 2 inches of soil.

Concrete does one thing very reliably. It cracks.

It's OK to crack.

That's water pipe, pex. Comes in red, blue, black, probably white. Went through lots of that at a weed grow, usually replaced annually, easier to replace it all than clean it, I guess was the logic of that grow.

I suppose you could use it for electrical conduit but that's not a rated use. Typically flexible electrical conduit is gray.

Yeah, the fact that he's gluing it suggest it's not PEX. It's probably PVC.

And the use is obviously tunnels for mice.

Yeah, I didn't notice the glue, it really looks like red pex, similar rigidity. But there's flexible pvc so it's probably still for water.

The pleasure of the OSHA thread is the uncertainly in each post whether you'll be seeing some Mickey Mouse-rear end disasters, horrible unsafe bullshit that somehow didn't go wrong, or elegant craftsmanship of the highest order. Every post is a roll of the dice.
