Just quit my lead cook position at a corporate restaurant where upper management ignored toxic kitchen behaviour (a female cook was harassed by a male cook she had briefly dated and then he’d corner her in the staff room and demand to know who she’s sleeping with and would throw tantrums on line when she didn’t respond to his flirtations and she was told TO IGNORE IT) for a indie kitchen where we mostly do festivals and change our menu out weekly. Better pay, a pension, and no toxic masculinity issues as this kitchen is female-led. It’s a breath of fresh air after the last year.

So yeah people have been reaching out about this main guy in The Bear, saying "dude he reminds me of you when we used to work together at _____". I looked it up (should really watch the show) and it's the same guy who played Lip on Shameless, people used to tell me he reminded them of me as well. I never used to see the resemblance; he's just another guy with a huge nose and curly hair. But that photo of him with the litre container did it, I can totally see the resemblance. Unfortunately I lost all my hair and got real fat, and I really don't want to go back to working in kitchens.

I work at a German restaurant that serves a schweinhaxe as big as a human baby, it's ridiculous. I think my favorite dish is sauerbraten with spaetzle, though.

There was a place called Bauhaus in Vancouver that did upscale German food, owned by none other than Uwe Boll. Was really good, but I think Covid killed it

Edit: South German food is pretty good, kinda similar to northern italian food, lots of pasta-ish things, dumplings and mountain cheeses. Living in Scotland somehow makes me genuinely miss German food because they at least care a little bit about it unlike the British. It was chicken with veg developed during mad cow fears in the late 20th century, so there wasn't a lot of veal n beef being had. It's not just standard doner + veg.

Head chef is being pissy at me because I don't have anything to do lately with brewing for the summer rush winding down and my boss deciding to slow things down with COVID cases going up. Dude's always got his butt jacked about something I'm doing despite us working in almost completely separate departments and he has zero say over what I do. Sometimes he acts cool then all of a sudden he's stonewalling me when I ask to borrow a cap opener after letting me borrow one several times before because"they keep going missing". But thanks for constantly borrowing my malt scale and returning it without turning it off every single time I guess. At least it reminds me why I never want to work in a kitchen/bar.

The other night a server was feeling rough from her period, so a fellow BOH offered her a special Tylenol. The server gladly accepted and took it. The BOH forgot to mention that they use “special Tylenol” as code for Adderall at our restaurant, which the server was unaware of until later. This same BOH worker once showed me a video of herself doing around 6 kinds of drugs/substances in the span of 30 seconds in a local bar’s bathroom. She’s a champion. Kind of.

Agree, that is a terrible employee, a terrible person. Once overheard a gal in a kitchen talk about an old event where another (current at that time) employee switched her cold water with hot water. She noticed it the second the picked up the glass. Took her aside and asked her if people witnessed it, because that's food tampering, a felony. Guy who did it got fired once the bosses found out.

It was an actual mistake on her part, she didn’t mean to give the server an Adderall without her knowledge. Probably wasn’t thinking clearly, what with being high and all. I’m not making excuses for her, just clarifying it wasn’t an intentional dosing. Definitely the craziest place I’ve worked at.

Calling addy ''special Tylenol ' is apparently a known work thing, lady gave server a pill and said something like, 'here, have a special Tylenol '. It sucks for sure but I read it as an unintended miscommunication rather than an intentional malicious dosing.

This? I call it acetaminophen. But if you didn't hear me clearly, its actually a schedule 2 stimulant. Your fault for not listening. lmfao at the anyone thinking exposure to a hard core amphetamine is some casual misunderstanding about a clearly established brand name drug like tylenol.

I didn't say it was a good idea, just that it didn't sound like an intentional dosing, more a situation where everyone is an idiot (if you don't know why the druggie is using the word special in front of the name of a generic painkiller maybe ask about that before swallowing). Also lol gently caress my coworkers they can get thier own drugs, I ain't handing out poo poo. (USER WAS PUT ON PROBATION FOR THIS POST)

Maybe stop repeatedly going to bat for the person handing out drugs under the guise of over the counter headache medicine, and maybe stop blaming the victim of assault for not knowing better. Was it actually you who did this or something?

how does a stimulant get the code name "special tylenol" caffeine pills are a legal over the counter thing why can't you just call it that gahhh. they make stupid diet pills that look like and have names like some kind of designer drug/research chem stimulant. you can buy them at a gas station or walmart. handing out controlled narcotics to coworkers is already a very poor idea, even if you tell them exactly what it is. the fact that they had no idea it was a stimulant or a scheduled substance is woof
