Decided to check in on the GME chimps

https://www.reddit.com/r/Superstonk/comments/w6vlkb/gme_marketplace_volume_1259936187_current_eth/

quote:

Before we get too excited we need to remember that this is a beta release with near zero effect on the bottom line. The beta release is just to work out the bugs in the system before getting much larger volumes after the real release in the next few days.

The average fees per day continue to decline and are now $230,439/13 = $17,726 per day, down from about $25k/day earlier.

To put this into perspective, Gamestop reported operating losses of $157.9M in the 10-Q for Q1, or $1,750,000 per day losses or 100 times the gross fee revenue per day, before operating expenses of the NFT marketplace.

quote:

I think you’re missing part of the equation though because they’re not getting these fees in USD but in ETH, which is crazy undervalued after the deleveraging the last couple of weeks. So that $17,726 could just as easily be $40k/day by year end. Whereas the dollar is going to remain stable (thanks military! Lol)

GME has now adopted full crypto-bro status. The merger is complete. Ape together strong. I can't wait to see where this all goes soon.

yeah i knew about this but didn't want to type up a whole bunch of the backstory and that thread gives a pretty good summary.

one thing doug said in his video where he was leaving coinflex (not going to call it an apology video) was he was claiming he didn't have ownership and wasn't paid to promote the coin and that he also had lost money too. which you know, YOU PROMOTED IT ON YOUR CHANNEL is why people are mad at you doug.

one thing i will say.. not in his defense but to clear up what he's thinking: the reason he thinks paying back 10% is a good thing is because in the poker world, a lot of this stuff happens. where someone will stake someone else in tournaments over a long period and sometimes that person is so far down in makeup (how much he owes the stakee) to the staker that they'll just try to ghost the stakee. eventually they come to an agreement where the stakee pays back the staker in small amounts (10%) as a sign of good faith, etc. etc. the reason the stakee pays back the makeup is because if he doesn't otherwise, no one will ever stake him again. once you're a known person who doesn't pay back their debts you're pretty much a persona-non-grata in the poker world.

in the case with coinflex... them paying back 10% to that many people means they don't really have 100% for everyone, and there's no way to make that back up. in poker you continue to play tournaments or grind cash games to pay that money back. there's no way to do that for coinflex in this case. can't really tell if doug is that dumb or just naive.

edit: it really is sad how far doug has gone.. he definitely was a big voice in the poker community against cheats and angle shooters, and really advocated for the players (vs the room)... and now he owns a poker room himself. lmao. (although i do hear its good)

i think he optimistically thinks that they will eventually pay the other 90% of it back. or he's being a bit disingenous.

and again, the reason people who are staked pay back their makeup is because 1. they don't have the money any more and 2. they want to eventually play poker at higher stakes again.

coinflex already has their money. the money they cheated from other people. there is no need to really back it all back. i haven't followed much on coinflex but afaict, there's like 0% chance people get their money back. i can't tell if he's naive, or just trying to damage control his (for lack of a better word) "brand" by doing this.

doug, without a doubt, at his peak was one of the world's best no limit heads up specialists. like his commitment to studying the game was incredible and he was able to discuss high level hands very well on his youtube channel.

then he got into crypto.

----

phil hellmuth, as much of a dickish rear end in a top hat he is, i think it's pretty clear that "bitcoin latinum" hat is a paid promotion he gets money to wear. people definitely giving him poo poo but also i think most people know hellmuth knows nothing about cryptocurrency on a deep level. (he still should get poo poo)

many moons ago in the online poker world when ultimate bet, a company hellmuth promoted and was a sponsored pro of, had that huge goduser scandal come out and hellmuth claimed ignorance of what was going on. i think people gave him a lot of poo poo about resigning at the time he did thinking that he knew more than he let on until leaked chat logs came out where some of the founders, i think it was greg pierson and russ hamilton, basically said they kept hellmuth in the dark.

anyways. hellmuth is a huge jerk and stuff but that dude.. in terms of paying off debts and making good is probably better than the rest of the poker world only because hellmuth understands how bad his brand would take a hit from something like that.

The most profitable way to exploit that glitch would have been to use it in hacked accounts, so you can steal the winnings if the leverage play hits, and leave some rando to deal with the losses if it doesn't.
