Rectal Death Adept posted:I often worried I had metal shavings behind my eyes from my redneck father's safety squint procedures when we worked on cars leading to countless instances of poo poo getting in your eyes and trying to blink it out. The first time i got an MRI they were like ".........it's probably fine" I caught a steel fragment in my eyeball while drilling through steel. Had no idea until the next morning. I was unable to open my eye - it was swollen & any effort to open it was intensely painful. Went to the ER and that anesthesia they drip into your eyes was wonderful. God, the relief! Doctor removed a steel chip stick into the conjunctiva & remarked that, had I not come in, it would have eventually worked through into the humour, where it would eventually rust, causing permanent clouding of the fluid & blindness. Works for me. Spoiled in case someone doesn't want to read a story about a semi driving through a house. TOWN OF VINLAND, Wis. (WLUK) -- A baby died after a semi tractor/trailer crashed into a home in Winnebago County. Officials say just before 6 p.m. Monday, a semi tractor/trailer was traveling southbound on I-41 when it left the road, crossed a frontage road and crashed into a home with people inside on Green Valley Road in the town of Vinland, just north of Oshkosh. Deputies confirmed Tuesday morning, an eight-month-old baby boy inside the home died in the crash. The driver of the semi tractor/trailer, a 63-year-old Little Chute man, sustained minor injuries. Investigators were on scene for more than 10 hours after the crash. Roads around the crash reopened around 5 a.m. Tuesday. Deputies say no further information will be released at this time.

I wonder if this is a similar issue to what happened to that autonomous race car some team was making. When they started it up, there was an error and the variable storing the steering angle was NaN and it went hard right into a wall.

One of my ex's father was an aircraft mechanic, until he walked into an active prop and lost one arm and two fingers on the survivng hand. Im kind of boggled by that, because every time I work ramp jobs Im super paranoid about the lil red beacon on the plane, I dont go near it until I know the engines are safe.

I dunno, I know the pilot typically has some defined responsibility for passenger safety over here, so I wondered if it might be related to that. I don't know how far that responsibility extends, or how it varies worldwide, though.
