Wassup, Choom?
Ya need sumthin'?
I wrote a much bigger version of this but I don't wanna just vent itt so here's a very short version of a few incidents in the last week. There's one for every single day I've been in but I chopped em out to get to the meat. I hate it here!!

She wasn't happy with how an online order I did went last week.
In response to me asking for some admin time set aside for me to do orders and stock checks she insisted instead she would do stock checks herself. I didnt really want that but anyway she only ever did it once. So I did the order by eyeballing our stock.
She makes a huge show of yelling down the phone at the stockist the next day and adds about $100 onto the order. I finally get back into our email and check the confirmation for the order and cos she was shouting on our terrible shop phone she actually ordered a heap of the wrong thing. She was also so keen to show me up that she ordered things that were already on the order and doubled up on stuff so great! She got the customs info some time at the weekend but she pretends she doesn't know how to pay it and so leaves it for a few days while I'm out and things always show up late over it. I cant wait to see her hosed up order come in.

She managed to forget the password to her online bank things and it hosed with our pay over the weekend. No one can log into the app that lets us control the cash machine in here either atm... because again she forgot and changed the pw.

I forgot that Monday was supposed to be the big day. So again, I had a sit down meeting the other month, basically about how things have to change, certain things should be more... legit and on the level and she refused pretty much everything but didn't want me to feel left out and so took me on a tour of the shop pointing out all the furniture she'll move around?
I dunno how that was supposed to make me feel better about being an unpaid manager who hates her? But anyway she never bought any of it, she was gonna get cubbies for the jewellery and a cool dentist chair to pierce in and mess with some stuff and what she actually did was contact someone's cousin to move our counter 90 degrees clockwise? It was supposed to happen on Monday. And I was dreading coming in and having to act like that helped even a little but she didnt offer the guy money and he didnt do it hahaha. She wont pay for anything.

Today! It's only halfway through but I came in to the boss looking over the new decals for the front of the shop. She didn't talk to or pay the person arranging them so they half assed it a little and some of the lack of communication means the info on the sheets are wrong too. Wonderful, I go to mop up and end up shouting "ARGH" because there's a rancid unflushed poo poo in the toilet. I dunno if I mentioned this before but both me and the other person know which version of the boss we're getting today. A no-flusher means we are getting a particularly bad version of her.
Later she got a box from a supplier that she wouldn't let me open on my own and was being super shifty about, but turned out to be tattoo gear, so I think it's safe to say she's got some sex gear on the way.

Anyway that's just... this week. I used to be the kinda dude who could show up to work and do it all and go home and now I'm just trapped here depressed about it. The interview fell through, with the guy promising to call later, but I don't know any more.. maybe I'm being stupidly impatient but every single day I come in here is.. yeah

Quit your job asap. I’ve been in toxic jobs before and it’s AMAZING how much it fucks your life up. You’ll be amazed at how much better everything is without that bull poo poo.

Take literally any job you can to pay the bills while you find another piercing gig. Flip burgers at McDonald’s. Work as a janitor. Whatever get the rent paid. Been there, done that, it’s not great but it’s better than letting an awful boss wear you down and jumping into another bad job because you’re desperate for anything else

Oh, hello my two years doing litigation support for a Chicago law firm. Love to get reprimanded for my PCs having "too much uptime" by the IT manager because my Pentium 3 workstations were all chugging away at 250,000 pages of OCR that the lawyers were too cheap to shop out to a legit ediscovery place, and being told to grow the department when the IT manager wouldn't even expand our server space when our database drive was down to SINGLE-DIGIT MEGABYTES.

To be entirely fair, 99% of the screwy poo poo I see in my day to day job can be traced back to 'computer has been on for a week/month/fiscal quarter, and REALLY wants a reboot'. It was even worse in the bad old days where a P3 might conceivably been still in actual use in an office environment.

Nah, I think he really believes it. But it's really fun when everyone else is on boarding new people, discussing their needs for additional headcount, reviewing job descriptions. And when a VP asks my boss directly "What additional resources do you need?" he says, "None, just testing." Would have been nice to at least get some new test equipment. Or anything g at all.

In this world of global pandemics, my work decided a few of us should go on a training course, which is fine. The way you pay for these is to use the American Express card, then you pay off the credit card yourself, then you claim the money back from the company. So I booked the course and the hotel for one night. I've paid off the costs on the Amex so I'm down £400, but sure whatever, I'll get it back eventually. Fast forward 2 months and I got an Official email telling me off for not submitting my expense report. So I emailed back asking, very reasonably, am I really meant to submit the claim before it's happened? They replied, Yes, You Must. So I did indeed go to do so... and the system won't let me submit the claim as the hotel stay is future dated. Am I seriously the first person in a company with tens of thousands of employees that has broken the entire expenses system by *checks notes* paying for something in advance?

If it's anything like my employer, there is a very real chance the answer will be "yes", "wait until the stay" and "we can't do anything without a receipt", no matter the responses.

I always post my expenses for the date I get the invoice, even if the stay is in the future. Also gently caress your company, they should float the money instead of relying on their staff, cheap bastards.

Yeah I really struggle to understand the concept that the company gives me the credit card and then I have to pay it off and then they pay me back... like why not just get the expense confirmed and then have them pay off the credit card directly?

Still, could be worse, I had a company phone when I started and every month you had to pay it off yourself and then reclaim in as an expense. They stopped that system a while back so the company just pays the bill themselves every time (crikey - progress!!!). I was still glad to get rid of it at the first opportunity though.q

I was going to say, I've heard of a company credit card, and I've heard of not having a company credit card and having to use your own and claim it back, but not this strange worst-of-both-worlds scenario your work seems to have cooked up.

It's specifically so you're spending your money, and you're on the hook for everything the card is used for, and if by some chance they feel generous enough to pay you for something you put on it, there is a process wherein they waste your time for a month before paying you.

If you had a company card tied to the company account, and you went and bought snacks with it, they can't deduct the snacks from your paycheck, they'd have to ask YOU for THEIR money back, and they refuse to allow that to happen.

Hier graben!
I used to do a very moderate amount of traveling in my prior job working for a government contractor. I had a corporate credit card with my name on it.
The usual process:
Travel people book air, hotel, rental car and charge it to your corporate card.
Use that card for all business related expenses on the trip (food, gas).
Reconcile needed receipts, which wasn't much. We got the full amount of per diem for food whether we used it or not, and no receipts required either.
Pretty simple and I was never on the hook for anything. But I would not get the per diem I didn't spend for another two weeks. Accounting would review my expense report and approve it. Then they'd pay the credit card off and wire me the difference.
A coworker traveled quite a lot more than me and he had a slightly different method.
A day before departure, he would use the corporate card to cash advance himself the trip's entire amount of per diem (food only). He usually gave his wife some portion of the cash and use the rest to feed himself on the trip.

Yeah, this is the norm, if you are the person responsible for the card then when you enter the receipts the company can decide if they want to cover particular charges. This happened to me years ago on a company trip where the only vehicle available in the tiny airport Hertz was an SUV and the company only covered at economy car rates, so an extra ~$10 a day came out of my pocket because they sent me to the middle of nowhere Alabama for a week.

That's some horseshit right there.

I'm assuming you found out about that policy after you returned? Because that's squarely within the realm where malicious compliance is warranted. It's worth an angry call to accounting demanding an exception otherwise you take a taxi to a hotel and stay there until they have an appropriate car available.

Amex isn’t intended for use by consumers. It’s for small business owners and Nepotism Positions to charge (legitimate) business expenses to for which they personally will redeem the rewards points and poo poo.

I have a company Amex purely because they give 3x points on shipping, so my UPS bill basically pays for my vacations. When I can actually take one every couple of years, that is.

We also accept Amex but it is the only card were people usually ask "um do you accept this?", so they must be used to lots of places not taking them. They do cost us a little more in interchange fees but like, pennies, on what is usually a $300-400 transaction so

Even when I lived in America (which was nearly a decade ago, admittedly) there were paper signs in nearly every shop I went to, saying they didn’t accept Amex.

We generally don’t have the signs in Europe, because everyone who lives here knows the rule by now and we like to make Americans feel bad.
