I genuinely thought the game was being so unfunny on purpose, and that was the "ironic" part of it. Until I saw someone mention the "Mr. Libtard" poster which just painted a perfect picture of the kind of people 'writing' this and how completely sincerely they thought they were being funny Even if the writing weren't 2005 south park fan script tier humour, you have to keep an entire inventory full of tools because they all give out after like six uses, multiple hours in and I hadn't even unlocked building yet, the narrator speaks so fast and so much that it's impossible to tell what your objective is because it's 95% pointless nonsense and 5% poo poo you genuinely NEED to know god just absolutely nothing worked in that game Danaru fucked around with this message at 21:16 on Jul 26, 2022 |

The early ones break pretty often, but it felt fine for the pace of the game, and getting metal tools later feels really good. 300% across the board would probably be negative for the overall experience for me personally.

All this Vintage Story talk is making me want to start up a new game, and coincidentally a new version (1.17.0 rc2) was just released. The only thing I wish the game had was more NPCs, is there a mod that does that? Villagers and stuff, I'm not a big fan of the random merchant wagons that never move - maybe one day they will be travelling merchants and there will be more permanent settlements? I suppose for now the only way to have a more living world is to play multiplayer, are there any goon servers?

Not that I'm anywhere near exhausting the supply of things to try during a normal run, but I've been thinking about a middle of nowhere survivalist run. I think you can make everything you need in some way, but the main problem is that many things require tools you can't craft and/or nails. What would you need to stock up on before heading out to get to self sufficiency (or at least only occasional trips to town)?

The closest I can think of that I've seen is a mod that changes the wagons into little encampments with multiple traders occasionally, tho I don't think it's been updated for awhile. Also that latest update is an experimental release, mods Will Not Work with experimental releases by design afaik, my assumption being they are technically for testing and feedback so they don't want modstuff messing up the data, so gotta wait for the stable release of 1.17 if you wanna use mods.

Me and my friends escaped to Louisville and then to a five story (I think) apartment building and then realized that if we were to keep going it'd just kinda be farming and rote work and none of us had the patience for that (well, I would've been fine with it, but I'm not gonna force my friends to have a bad time). That was before Christmas though, and it looks like the map is even bigger now. Our next project is Raft after one friend reported back that it's grown a bit the first time we tried it, and I'm wondering Zomboid has changed enough that I should suggest another run.

I had this thought the other day when I was moving everything I had to a spot out in the woods, safely away from any dangers with a poo poo load of food. I think to keep me interested I’ll need to keep putting myself in danger by clearing neighborhoods/towns for loot instead of being self sustaining (or just subsiding off my 100 some cans of food). Well, that and/or pretending to play the sims

If you're monitoring your weight, canned food kinda sucks tbh. Though being out in the woods, if you go heavy into trapping (which you should), and you've got some cabbage seeds to support it, you can find some extremely calorie dense rabbits. Trapping 2x3000 calorie rabbits per day adds up, fast. I am much the same however in needing a longer term goal. That's why I like making my base larger than it needs to be just for me, I try to have big sections, a small barracks, things to make it look and feel more like a survival compound than simply a video game shack. ....and then space and the right clothes for the mannequins.

I set up in the 3 house gated community mentioned above and, if I can get sustainable after the power and water shuts off, I'll take my truck out on a lake or river in the middle of nowhere and live out my days in a tiny cabin with occasional trips to burglarize homes in any nearby communities. Which is also my real-life plan for retirement, except I'll be fighting hordes of other climate refugees instead of zombies.

However, I've never even tried any real construction beyond "board up some windows and put curtains up, dismantle and move some things around" because I've never made it far enough for it to matter. I've never even actually been to Louisville or that whole in the fence I was talking about in game. Not sure if anyone else has encountered this in PZ, but be aware of towed vehicles - maybe detach them before leaving them unattended! https://youtu.be/EQWqNdk0R7I Since this^ happened while we were collecting vehicles for a car palisade (to then build a wooden fence inside) and went from 3/4 cars being in salvageable shape to 1/4. Hilarious though! Also, at the end - on my end at least, it looked like my friend had been killed, right when the hatcback "swiped" where he was, exactly as he jumped into the station wagon haha

What the hell, I just had a 50+ day run end for no apparent reason. I got to the military base and spent about 12 hours clearing out the parking lot (if you go, take about 3x as much ammo as you think you need). My character was exhausted, overheated, and nauseous (which I figured was due to be overheated for a long time) but didn't take a scratch. I found an unlocked 4-seater, laid down in the back to sleep, and died within about 4 hours. I went from nauseous to sick pretty much immediately and my health went from "something doesn't feel right" to "imminent death" in about three seconds, then I died. Are there health conditions that are invisible for a time and then suddenly cause death, zombification aside? I didn't have any of the other symptoms of a bite and the health screen was clear when I went to sleep.

Corpses cause sickness around them when in large numbers, and if you stick around too long it will drain your health. In other news, I've been playing a bunch of single player and have survived past 2 months for the first time. I've set up a nice base in the gas station in Ekron, and have discovered just how powerful fishing is for feeding your character. There's 3 small lakes near this gas station so plenty of fish to catch. Considering taking a trip to that military base for kicks, as I lost my previous longest-surviving character there. Each time you get scratched or lacerated by a zombie there's a chance that you are going to become a zombie, even if the scratch heals. It takes about 3 days to become a zombie but is effected by traits and slowed by being well fed. Feeling overheated and nauseous/sick with steadily dropping health are the telltale symptoms of zombie infection

Interesting, I didn't know that. Yeah, there were dozens and dozens of corpses and the car I was sleeping in was near the middle of the pile, so that makes sense. I also hadn't eaten in a day so I was probably more susceptible to illness. Wish there was some indication of all that, but oh well, you're supposed to die. Is there any point in continuing a run once you've been bitten, or is there a chance you just get sick and avoid infection?
