Old SA was a cliquey, misogynistic, mean-spirited mess of a forum and I much more enjoy modern SA than the old poo poo. That said the one thing that bothers me is the constant ineffectual doomerism that permeates every thread of every topic. Every topic, no matter how far removed, seems to devolve into 3 or 4 common complaints.

Better than old SA but kind of irritating.

It's okay if you have any questions.

A lot of what people liked about the old SA is that we were all 15-20 years younger then and it was much easier to be optimistic because of everything that hadn't happened yet back then.

Yes. And it was a better place than anywhere else on the internet at that time. 10 bux per ban + heavy moderation made it readable. I think that's what allowed it to eventually pull up to where we are today. Still imperfect but trying. And compared to everything else that's drat good.

The early forums kinda sucked because Lowtax would ban people randomly for money and people were legit scared to post

Not saying a little posting discretion is a bad thing but it went way too far in the wrong direction - meanwhile dropping slurs was fine so long as it was “funny” and absolutely normalized that sort of poo poo for an entire generation of terrible posters

Wait... Is that not normal? Did the cursed images thread make me realize that this is a symptom of my many eyes issues and most people don't experience what's shown in the picture? No eye doctor ever asked me about experiencing this or telling me about it.

Never drove in a place with that many lights and cars so I never experienced it as bad but I thought it was normal not being able to see poo poo when a car is on the incoming lane at night (2 directions on the same road, one lane each). I usually have to look at the line painted on the right to make sure I'm still following the road.

I guess I'm the cursed one...

Nope. Next time you go to the eye doctor, take a printout of the picture and tell them you thought everyone saw like that.

It's been a decade or more, complaining about it does nothing at all. It wasn't good but it's a little weird to complain about it like it was yesterday, lmao.

No

It is not.

I remember the first time this happened to me, driving on a similar road at night in 1988. Scared the poo poo out of me.

I'd been avoiding getting glasses for about ten years by the time this happened (my left eye was weak; I discovered it while riding a motorcycle & a bug flew into my right eye & suddenly the world was blurry).

Schad was on me - the prescription went bad within 30-days. I think my eyes were all like, "Finally! Some help! We can take it easy now!" - especially my right eye, which I thought was 20/20...

I couldn't afford to get another pair of glasses; the deal I got included contact lenses as well...so, I started wearing two left lenses. For years, optometrists were puzzled by how I had the exact same Rx in both eyes. Doing that little stunt also cost me the rest of my depth perception.

Seconding this. I went my whole life in glasses and contacts thinking that’s what night driving looked like for everyone. When I went to get lasik they told me I had super bad astigmatism.

After the surgery it changed EVERYTHING. I enjoy driving at night and looking at lights in the city and all sorts of stuff now.

This is the thread about talking cursed pictures and, to a lesser extent, cursed things in general. If you wanna whine about the conversation, how about changing it yourself instead of getting triggered by people remembering and feeling ashamed of the way the forum used to act and how it's affected the internet as a whole today.

I got glasses I was in my mid 20s, and was told I had astigmatism. The first time I put glasses on I was genuinely shocked that lights did not actually look how I thought they looked.

Better than old SA but kind of irritating.

I've been thinking about this lately and kinda decided that as more goons hit their 40s without reaching the milestones they wanted to in life the projection of misery onto everything is only going to get worse.

At least the fad of going "I want to kill myself lmao!!!" every other post has mostly gone away.

SA is generally a lot nicer of a place than it used to be, though.
