I think part of the problem is how the phrase "there is no ethical consumption under capitalism" tends to be used the way I've always taken it to mean is that any act of resistance against capitalism still counts, even if capitalist realism means that there are/were no other good options relative to it. If we organize a boycott against the UPS for keeping its drivers in trucks that get warm enough to kill people, that's not invalidated by the fact that FedEx may well be treating its drivers just as badly instead, people use the phrase as an excuse to engage in whatever behavior they might like, flattening all sorts of nuance and power dynamics, just because "well, it's all capitalism, and anything else I might be doing is still capitalism, therefore it's all the same, no difference between good or bad things" which strikes me as maybe a little disingenuous and unproductive as far as rationalizing doing the thing you were going to do anyway

It's not a solution. There can never be a solution to corporations squeezing employees in all possible manners under capitalism, because this is the foundation of that system. Nevertheless, airco in UPS trucks or whatever is a material improvement, however limited to only those workers, however temporary until management rolls it back or refuses to spend on maintenance causing all the airco to break etc etc. Left-liberals will try to convince you that since this improvement is good, clearly better than how things were, we should all commit all of our energy to winning as many of those kinds of victories as possible, and clearly then with enough improvements we will eventually reach a world that is good right?
