So I got the Temporal Agent starter pack for free, which got me the Paladin Temporal Battlecruiser (T6). Got a few questions as Im just getting back into this game after years away... Is the Paladin better than the Astika? Also is there a way to use ships as skins for other ships, like how FFXIV has the glamour system? My fave ship in Star Trek is the D'Deridex, and Romulan ships in general. If not, is there a good cash shop or other way to get said D'Deridex? As for fleet stuff, Im still in Dental. Anything I can do to be helping the fleet out?

Yes, but not how you'd like. Some ships can use other's skins if you have them both unlocked. If you buy the T5 Ranger, your Paladin could look like this and vice versa.  There are 7 D'Deridex ships you can buy and each one unlocks that ship's skin and parts for use on the rest. The T4 ship is only 10,000EC, so you'll probably want to pick that one up just for the options.

Yea, since the game launched there's been a particular stripe of goons whose idea of fun is beating the game economy into submission. And since they haven't added any fleet holdings in a couple of years now, there's not really anything left to build. There is a good cash shop called the C-Store, where you spend Zen. If you have more money than sense/time, you can buy zen with dollars. You just missed both a great sale on some Legendary packs, and a free T6 ship from the Summer Event. The next big guaranteed sale is Black Friday, but there will probably okay sales between now and then. Bigger scale, it doesn't really matter which ship you fly. Fly what you like and think looks good. The discussions in this thread around "better" and "worse" are at the top 10% of DPS. Any decent build can complete any PvE content in the game with little challenge (aside from the big difficulty spike around level 50). Captain class and ship class don't have to match. My main is an engineer, and I'm normally running a sci-hole ship. This weekend, I ran through a couple of cannon escorts because I wanted to get the ship traits. Do what you want 'cause a pirate is free and you are a pirate.

So what reps (or other sources) have some decent Disruptor & Plasma space weapons & things to go with them ? I have ships with Phaser, Tetryon, Polaron and Anti-Proton weapons for doing the Do X Dmg in Space Endeavors but I realized I don't have any Disruptor or Plasma weapons anywhere.

I think Romulan is the only rep that has Plasma before tier 6. Terran rep has excellent Disruptors.

Right chat but the killing of the out of game comms link means that people can't idle in a 3rd party chat window and jump into the actual game client when there is actual action to be had to either form a party or just shoot the breeze. Makes in-game chat more rare. That was a really unfortunate change but I think they did it to combat spammers, or maybe the one person who knew how it worked moved on. Disco rep also has a dual beam bank in DIsruptor flavor at T6. Though the other way to do those if to grab appropriate hangar pets if you have a carrier anywhere, then you can just swap those out.

My guess is that Disco pieces are mostly "basically premium stuff" because Cryptic was paid or told to make it better than the usual free giveaways, to generate buzz and interest towards the new Star Trek TV show. So they wanted to give new players some cool Disco-labeled stuff for free, and make the existing users to grind that reputation for advertisement.

Found this from 2012 as well. An example of the deliberately annoying / bullshit hoops we'd make people jump through just to get ignored. We didn't want to recruit back in those days. (I don't know that we particularly recruit now, stuff just sort of happens organically and sometimes people ask for an invite)  (I have some responses to this copypasta if anyone is interested in more archives)
