Depends on the jurisdiction, but judgments are often not discharged in bankruptcy when they involve cases like this with malice. Also if he appeals he'll probably have to post a bond for the full amount of the judgment.

An alright dude.
The settlement all depends on if Alex's bankruptcy actually goes through because if this is the level of care he's committed to this case I can't imagine that he's got amazing talent on his team for his bankruptcy.

I used to work as the main point of contact for what we called "audits" at a big data company. I've mentioned it before. Think of that company as private sector Big Brother that stores all communications for places that are required to use a vendor like them by law. Like financial institutions have to let companies like them get every single text, email, IM, social media post, etc that any of their employees is part of and store it offsite in their data center where it can't be tampered with... aka: those companies couldn't just choose to delete data or NOT turn over data as part of a discovery request because the requests for those things went to us, not them. And WE provided the data because, surprise, it turns out you can't trust companies being investigated by the SEC for Big Crimes or those companies' lawyers to actually provide the court with accurate data that wasn't tampered with. So my everyday job was working with judges, FBI agents, FINRA, SEC...

Anyway, those kinds of discovery requests would make the people whose data was being requested get sooooo mad. I'd have clients yelling at me demanding that I absolutely not turn over the communications that were requested all the time. Always things like "They requested everything for Bob from Dec 2010 to Jun 2017? Ok, we'll need you to remove any emails from Bob to or from any of the following email addresses or if any of his emails contain the phrase 'guaranteed return on your investment' so they're excluded from the final results, ok?" Just brazen attempts to remove the guilty data, constantly. And we'd have to tell them no, you don't have the authority to override the SEC's request... doy. You absolutely cannot trust guilty parties who know they're guilty and know their communications will prove they're guilty to turn over accurate data for their own case. Such as today.
