I have been a fan of Gas Station Encounters for several years. They're a convenience store in Medina, Ohio that documents people that come to their store and try to (and often succeeding in) steal from the store. Tangential car content. Here's their latest video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Li5CDT-hzNg Well, I've driven by the store's exit maybe 8 or 10 times and always looked at it across the freeway, but today I had different business in that part of the state and I was driving right past the store. So I had to stop in. It was absolutely surreal. It's obviously just as the channel shows and I walked in and knew the store like the back of my hand. It was fun.

I get excited whenever a new video from this guy pops up. He's an australian guy who fixes big caterpillar parts. He also collects, restores, and uses older machining equipment. He seems extremely knowledgeable and takes enormous pride in his work. His dog is loving awesome too, goes batshit for squeaky toys. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EiIrHB9CM6c It's unreal seeing the amount of time he will spend replacing hydraulic rods and eyes over small gouges, and then seeing the south-east asian guys just straightening them with a hydraulic ram and sending it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_5F-ZITFQs

RCR fell off so badly that it's sad. All of a sudden, the channel is nothing but cars being raffled and the odd new product bit. It used to be creative and fun, a bit base, but that was one of the things that made it unique. Now they're not even trying.

CAT INTERCEPTOR posted:Smarter Every Day - the science of tractor pulling Really cool though, I've seen tractor pulls on like TV occasionally years ago and figured out the whole thing was about the sled somehow but never understood what exactly is going on, because they never explained it. After the explanation I thought pretty much everyone would just get stuck the moment the sled dropped completely which happens at the exact same distance thanks to the gearing. I couldn't find the results (easily) from that specific event but the top 5 at some random pull I found were in fact pretty close. Hmm. 234.333 234.173 225.222 224.819 223.506 I wonder also if it'd be possible to set up some traction control system that would optimize the performance, of if it's forbidden in the rules. Seems like it should be pretty trivial to use like an accelerometer to measure the angle and module the throttle to maintain the optimal position, for example.

mobby_6kl posted:The first Smarter video I had to use subtitles and even they were often wrong lol. https://ntpapull.com/pulling-101/classes So.. being a child of TNN, and a dad who likes motorsports... The hot ticket with tractor pulling, is to get the sled going as fast as you can BEFORE the grousers dig in. By going fast ~before~, you have the mass of the sled, and your truck, to get over the drag of the sled. I've been to .. maybe a dozen tractor pulls, and you could tell if someone was going to have a good run in the first say.. 30 feet of the pull. I could talk a lot about traction :-) but this is a video thread.

I'm pretty sure most modern high end sport bikes have a "wheelie control" feature that works something like this and will allow you to just floor it and hold a known angle as long as you have the power to keep it there. Presumably if this were allowed they'd be doing it already.

The host of the Youtube channel Rare Classic Cars interviewed John Manoogian, the designer of the cars. Yeah, the Rare Classic Cars Channel has some good stuff. Worked in GM and owns quite a few late 60's to 80's cars like a kid collects toys. Also owns Syd Mead's '72 Imperial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhQC6Qm5ZwI I thought it would be a 2 door instead of a 4 door though. I also like Steve Magnante's channel. Lots of information on old cars, just walking around a vintage wrecking yard. Also fun when he talked about his model kit collection during the wintertime. https://www.youtube.com/c/SteveMagnante Another is "This Week In Cars" https://www.youtube.com/c/ThisWeekWithCars It's nothing flashy and it can be flat at times, but I find it still interesting. Also cool to own a warehouse full of english sports cars and even keep them up on shelves.
