The Chronic, Aquemeni. Yes! My car's cassette player poo poo the bed and had to go for warranty repair, which basically took the entirety of the summer of '92, I ganked my sister's Pioneer boombox and buckled it into the front passenger seat, and listened to Apocalypse '91 on permanent repeat for like 3 months. I'll always think of baseball practice when I hear that album.

Late 80's Blaupunkt (which is what I replaced the aforementioned Sony that kept breaking over and over with). Too bad the brand is poo poo now.

StormDrain posted:The Bluetooth tape seems insane until I realized that the last car with a tape teck was a Lexus in 2010, and the first car with Bluetooth was well before then. I haven't looked at that Bluetooth cassette, but I'm envisioning a magic box that not only takes your BT music and plays it through the stereo, but also uses the winding mechanism to charge an internal battery, so you never have to touch it again. It's not that magic, is it?

Most bt adapters I've seen (and own) have a tiny lithium battery and recharge via USB, 4-12 hours use between charges

Seems like it would be easier to just put the BT receiver in a little cigarette lighter dongle and have a wire going into the fake cassette. Eliminate the shipping concerns and cost that come along with lithium batteries. It would probably give better BT reception that way too. And provide a place to put some buttons for next track, etc. And maybe even provide another USB port for charging your phone. A wire coming out for power probably turns off the retro hi-fi crowd who is probably using these to listen to cell phone music on their 1970s Marantz tape deck at home. Because the analog tape heads make the sound warmer or whatever.

I can't say for certain what those rocker switches do exactly, but I think I remember they only effected the front passenger seat to move it forward, tilt it and then move it back, from the driver's position. The rear seats could recline, the entire interior was wool, and you could control the audio from the rear. Also had ultrasonic mirrors to shake the water off them in the rain Here are the controls in-between the rear seats. From here you can manipulate that front passenger seat as well. Yeah that head unit is one of my favorite parts of the interior. Was (is?) fully functional, and the cassette/aux jack worked great with the exception that I could hear the spark plugs at higher volume since the condenser/insulator thing broke off in the engine bay. The rear speakers were alright for the time period, but the door speakers left a lot to be desired. Bottom of the priority list for getting Giselle running again, but once we do it'd be nice to upgrade the speakers and install some sort of better amp. I should write up a new thread when I get some time. Unfortunately the most important aspect of the repair is currently on hold, but there's been a lot of progress elsewhere...

Nice morning to drive the 7 in, still splattered with bug guts from my last early morning drive. Makes everything else on the road look absolutely massive. The chrome mirror needs to be replaced, it's useless and ugly. Only complaints at this point are the transmission tunnel gets really warm, 115F in the pedal box, and due to the filler neck design it is an absolute pain to fill at the pump.

I used to get terrible swamp rear end in my Exige in summer with very similar temps in the footwell - drove from Berlin to Katowice in Poland during the summer once. Outside temps were in the 90s, footwell in the 100s, and higher the faster you went. If it wasn’t for the alcantara seats, I’d have needed a spatula to unstick myself from them.
