The “Sidewalk Scoop”? Did some kid seriously win first prize suggesting Little Lefty name his paper the Dog poo poo? I’ll bet the play was lousy, too.

Randy Milholland's Popeye making with the deep cuts today.

I was going to mention how calling Sutra Oyl back from Bobby London Land is dedication to the lore, but she went and threw out all those other names, and there goes the morning. Sylvan Oyl is from the early 1960s TV cartoons, Sweet Oyl turned up in Bud Sagendorf's run on the strip, but the deepest cut for people who didn't jump on until Popeye showed up is Castor's ex-wife Cylinda Oyl.

She was written out before Popeye showed up for the first time, and there were actually two versions of the marital break-up, one for the dailies and one for the Sundays. Nice to see she's staying in touch with her ex-in-laws, though.

For real, one of the big differences between good comic Mary Worth and bad comic [most every other newspaper drama comic] is that each strip of the Wilbur relationship recap has one panel of Dawn looking at her father like some long-legged spider that crawled out of her kitchen drain.
