Fans of historical newspaper comics owe it to themselves to read the "Comicland Magazine" parody inside MAD Magazine #82.
There is so much to unpack in there. Superman's seasonal summer outfit, Mary Worth's gossip column, Daddy Warbuck's rant about Communists, Prince Valiant as the sexiest pin-up ever, etc.

That third panel of the first comic just makes it. It's still funny if you remove it, but that panel included just makes it top tier.
I can't believe Nancy is a commy. Who's next? Little Lefty?

Oh trust me, it gets better.
The Warbucks communist rant and Mary Worth gossip column and the quiz barely out-weighed the comedy of Superman in his seasonal summer outfit.

Wally Wood really was an amazing artist, he could adapt to just about any art style. Pity he went weird after leaving Mad Magazine and his comics writing buddy/future sci-fi author Harry Harrison.

If we're posting MAD Magazine comic strip parodies, here's one from issue 253.

Mainly sharing because "Arnold" is featured in it. For a strip that didn't last long, this is a pretty high-profile parody.

There they are, the cover stars! Have we seen the last of them? I mean, probably, but maybe not.

I moved into a house once that came with a jar of Schwartz “microwave browning”, I’m still slightly unsure what it is. I know what it does, but the product was antiquated back in 2000 and the internet is not helping me.

If you look closely you can see “Chibi-Charlotte” on top of the cupboard in panel 1. As for “microwave browning” my internet searches seem to point to some sort of food coloring / additive that gives food a brown / roasted color when cooked in the microwave. It seems the product has been supplanted by “microwave browning dishes”.

Vintage Valiant (Aug. 24, 1952)

The next week or so will essentially be a clip show recapping a few of the older plot lines. At this point the strip had been running for about fifteen years, so it probably wasn't a bad idea.

Still not sure what changed in my scanning setup to cause the left side of these panels to blow out like that. Maybe I've got too much gutter shadow correction.
