I think BH would flirt with more libertarian ideology and maybe go the Dennis Miller post-9/11 brain break, but I could easily see a more Paul F Tompkins approach or “don’t be a dick how is this challenging”, minus the wardrobe. I’d settle for a Carlin-esque “I might not fully understand this but gently caress you right wing assholes” attitude. As long as it’s not the Chapelle route. Good god.

Bill Hicks would hate to be compared to Alex Jones but I believe he would love AJ being mad about this.

Also I am worried Hicks would fall down the anti-trans hole, but maybe I'm just burned by that in general. I'm still getting over Mulaney having Chapelle as an opener on his tour and not even saying anything publicly one way or the other. I was fine with him leaving his wife - poo poo happens in relationships we don't know about. But I saw him on his tour late last year and the concept that the opener could have been random appearance of Chapelle had I been so unlucky as to live near him is just, ugh. Just inflicting that on people isssss not cool.

I also didn't learn that Louis CK won a Grammy this year until recently (yeah don't ask me how I missed that) and just like ugh this loving world

anyway what I'm saying is we must treasure and protect PFT

Maybe I've gotten used to it, but I enjoy Jordan.

Sure, maybe he shouldn't shout as much. But on the other hand, as KrunkMcGrunk said, he's an expression of the catharsis we feel whenever you want to yell out, "WHAT IN THE EVERLIVING gently caress?!" when you hear that poo poo.

Now if you'll excuse me, here come the sex robots.

I think they make a good team and their dynamic together works pretty well for me. I come into listening to it as a comedy podcast and for me it serves that purpose well.

Some American comics are a bit much for me but in this context it just works. Each to their own and all that!

Jordan says plenty of dumb poo poo about non-IW topics and has had some painfully long discussions of it. But about the same level of other comedy lefty podcasts hosts trying to actually talk about history or the psychological literature (or whatever) where if you do know your stuff it gets really painful. Because that's what happens when people talk about things they're not really experts in.

But he's got a surprisingly high track record considering his job is he's supposed to be absolutely stupid on a quantum level, completely ignorant of any random poo poo that Dan mentions, and then needs to cotton to all of it immediately after a short, on feed explanation. And be funny while doing it. I think you folks are underestimating how difficult a line to walk that is.

I would much rather Jordan not try to be funny because he's bad at it and it's worse than just a regular guy to bounce off of who isn't aggressively annoying

Jordan would be more tolerable if he didn’t knowingly pontificate about the stand-up life while simultaneously struggling constantly and badly to do bits. NY Times Daily had a fantastic retrospective look at Loose Change 20 years later, and it's eye opening how young the internet was and how naive the users were. Google Videos really made it possible.

The biggest takeaway is just how amateurish it was made, literally by teenage boys in their bedrooms. It's super pathetic in hindsight and anyone who still gives it credibility is 100% a loving moron.

The best part of Loose Change was when the kids who made it had to face down actual structural engineers who explained how incredibly wrong every one of their assumptions were. In a perfect world that would have been the end of the Jet Fuel Can't Melt Steel Beams theories, but in this reality you can just claim that the engineers are part of the NWO and WOULD say something like that.

Man I just do not understand the dollop. I like the concept, but it just doesn’t work. But that’s ok! Not everything has to be for me all the time. The Dollop isn’t a lesser show based on my opinions.

Anyhow, I keep thinking about Owen’s media studies degree, which is pretty much what I have, and how he reminded me of someone I knew in college. He got nixed from a campaign in RI because whoops he left all of his lovely opinions on his Twitter from years ago.

I dealt with him maaaaany times and I’d even say at one point he kind of was a friend! We had some of the same crowds and he tried to get a frat started on my commuter campus and whoops they were kinda bigoted too, and reportedly acted How Frats Act. I worked with a girlfriend of his, she was such a sweetie. He didn’t deserve her.

God even then he was such an rear end. Obnoxious sheltered suburban boy on the mean streets of Providence. I finally had enough of him when we had a class together and he went on a screed about immigrants and the professor just let him. I told him to gently caress off and walked out.

Not always, but it does if you're also playing the roles of active audience and hype man, trying to replicate listener thoughts and provide the input of a notional crowd, while also riling them up to join in with the argument being advanced.

You get specialists who do that in some media. They have the knowledgeable one, the contributing but knowledge-less one, and the presenter who chips in mostly to shriek obvious points & catch phrases, keep the thing on topic, and generally keep the energy going.

Alex Jones does all roles by himself in a sort of one man band performance. Even working in the adverts as an organic part of the piece. It would be impressive if he wasn't such a pillock.

This is all just my opinion having listened to too many hours of podcast and radio. I'm not presenting the findings of a scholarly analysis of podcast structure or anything.
