How do folks feel about doubling up on guitar finishes in their collection? I'm really happy with my metallic purple Jaguar, and now I've seen I can get a Bass VI in the same color, except the headstock is also painted. I was originally looking at a black one which seems to be much less prevalent on the second hand market.

Might be more for the bass thread but I'm thinking of trying to get a body cheap and do some mods, like filtertrons again. If I'm feeling ambitious I considered getting a cheap Harley Benton VS and doing major work to it, ideally including adding the Jaguar/Bass VI style switches including a strangle on the low end. But I do really like the Jaguar tremulo and would really like that on this if I pull the trigger.

I've got 3 seafoam green guitars. Would have no issue getting a 4th one.

since i write a lot of midwest emo/pop punk songs about being trans (because that's the only thing i've ever done-- kind of precluded me from dating and getting broken up with and all the normal stuff people write about), i did think it'd be fun to get two daphne blues, two pinks, and a white, so i could arrange them on a stand and get the flag.

after that cringy post, here's something encouraging:

i'm at the point now where when something is weirdly labelled or voiced in ultimate guitar, i can tell what they're trying to do, and find a better way to play it myself, or a way that makes more sense. and that's really fun.

It's even more complicated because a lot of talcum powder used to contain asbestos, which obviously does cause cancer. That's really hosed up the data too. But no modern talc should contain asbestos and it likely doesn't cause cancer if it's not contaminated.

not guitar related, but learning a bit of piano is really helping me drill intervals. on guitar, reading music, i just see the notes as positions on the fretboard. on piano i can hardly help but see the intervals as i play. pretty cool

Actually yeah, I felt pretty bad about the pithyness towards LG there. I hosed up and want to apologize.

Sorry LG, the psuedoscience thing was about the weird "talc causes cancer" claim out of nowhere and my exasperation with stuff like that. It wasn't meant to be about the actual doctor diagnosed scoliosis. I'm sorry for not communicating properly and being a snippy rear end in a top hat.

Dang It Bhabhi! is a great guy who fixed my Dunlop Tremolo pedal for whatever I was willing to pay, and I am still both grateful and impressed. He makes pedal circuits and works, literally, at a pickup factory. He reached out to me just in the last several days to share the news about his job, and I suppose he was swinging by here to :justpost: about it. It is very cool, and so is he.
He's a very smart and insightful guy and his opinion ITT comports with my experience as well. I'm a reformed rear end in a top hat and will leave it at that.

I went to my audition on Sunday. I took my modeler, foot controller, three expression pedals, and both Headrush 108s. I put them both on 7. Since I had my laptop, I brought backing tracks with keys and vocals for us to play along with since we don't have a singer yet.
We played Montrose, solo Hagar, Van Halen, and The Circle. I got the output of my modeler up to about 4 and had to stop there. It was loving glorious and I'm going back Sunday at 6pm because I am officially attached to the project as of Monday.
I have a little video and stuff, but it's pretty bad. If I can pull a pic or two and figure out how to blur the drummer's face out (I have a licensed copy of Filmora X, maybe it is easy?) I'll put a selection up on YouTube. More likely I will take a tripod to rehearsal on Sunday and record as much as I can. We have a candidate for vocals, keys/rhythm guitar who will be available to audition in two weeks.

Talk about being in your happy place, doing what you love! Just grooving in the sweet spot between the two loud as gently caress FRFRs.

Also, these things are loving great.

it's alright.

sorry for seeming like i thought everything was about me, it's just a couple times in the past, you've gone a while without posting and then dropped in when i made an rear end of myself.

fwiw i didn't mean to come across as aggressively as i did in my post, either.

anyway i played for several hours today, and yesterday, and the day before, so that's really fun. there's stuff i can do that i didn't even really know i could, which is really motivating. gotta find some technique stuff and work on it, without biting off more than i can chew.

When I bought the overpriced (imo) horizon devices overdrive i also bought some of the picks they have, which I think are like tortex jazz IIIs or something in a really pleasing baby blue and they're now my favorite picks. I also bought some strings from Horizon Devices which I do actually recommend because the gauges were really well selected

edit: Ultex!

And I don't think the precision overdrive is overpriced, necessarily, but I do think it was very very very much not the midrange voice I prefer

That is weird.

Every once in a while I'll try playing with a .88 tortex or a 2mm alligator or any other pick I find on my desk. while I can use them, it just doesn't feel as natural as the jazzIII. Maybe one day it'll click and I'll like another pick.

Looks like Horizon has Ultex Jazz III and (Ultex? Delrin?) Flow shape picks in that light blue color. I definitely like that color better than the standard Ultex piss yellow.

I went down a rabbit hole a few months ago examining different types of picks and trying some out. The Flow shape is available across a lot of the Dunlop pick product lines now, more than the Jazz III XL which I think it is very similar to (a little bit wider maybe). As someone with larger hands and technique like a clumsy baby, I think a Flow-shaped Gator Grip would be ideal, but it just isn't available for now.
