I could see leaving your job for something less secure for less money if you believed in the mission or whatever, but usually that's how people start working for the government. Like getting fed up with being a corporate lawyer and becoming a school teacher for a third of the money because it means you don't have to spend all your time trying to prove cancer victims didn't get sick from your client dumping toxic chemicals into the water or whatever. Unless he was in law enforcement whatever his government job was, it was probably much more of a net benefit to society than whatever he's doing now.

In Garrison, the military is a pretty kush job (provided you aren't mentally deficient and do something stupid like becoming a Grunt). You get like 1 long weekend a month (3 or 4 day), 30 days paid vacation, a reasonable facsimile of healthcare (comparative to America at large), and a system that will keep the under and un-performing forever. Milage varies, but I know plenty of assholes who joined the service, got what amounted to a 9-5 with an exercise session before work. I am mot advocating enlisting. Just saying it's a government job, with similar benefits, and much less pay.

Wait lmao yeah how did he manage to make less money going private? Everyone knows one of the reasons the civil service is so incompetent is that a lot of the people with any kind of ability or skill just use it as a way to pad their resume before taking high-paying corporate jobs. Dude was probably just too incompetent even for government work and had to take a much more junior position after getting canned

FebrezeNinja posted:If it's the same dumbass survey that was getting mocked two weeks ago, that's 26% of people still looking for a job, so not including people who successfully switched. 40% of the regrets are "it's harder to find a job than expected" and 22% are "I liked the people at the old place" and the survey was conducted by Joblist on people who were seeking employment. That 26% would be dwarfed by the pile of asterisks that would have to follow it for a fair presentation

CellBlock posted:Also, I don't know what he does (nothing, most likely), but where I am, it's pretty much a given that the same job in the public vs. private sector will pay more in private, so if he took a pay cut leaving the government, he probably also took a significant demotion. (The reasons to work public sector are the benefits, retirement package, and job security.) I'd put a small amount of money on him being dismissed for cause (e.g. sexually harassing someone publicly or punching his boss in the face) which is also why he can't find a job at level in the private sector.

I guess I could then use the Superior Strategy to get better reparations? And then maybe start some successful organization efforts to create a powerful voting bloc that would tip the political scales in my favor, benefiting the majority whether they liked it or not? He’s right, Superior Strategy is the way to go.
