While everyone's trying so hard splat each other, I like to find a nice quiet corner on the other side of the map and color.

One of the things I liked about the first Xenoblade Chronicles was how streamlined the side quests were. A lot of them were still bog standard hunt and fetch quests, but it was nice that they completed and you got the EXP and rewards as soon as you did the thing.

I didn’t know what to think of Xenoblade Chronicles 3’s way of doing side quests at first. Listening in on soldiers’ conversations and then having a conversation with your party to discuss how to go about solving the problem seemed like adding unnecessary steps and a regression from XBC1 at first. But now I’m in the groove of the game and see the overall loop and I think it’s actually pretty smart. Liberating the colonies doesn’t solve all their problems, and from their perspective, half your party are the enemy, and the other half are traitors. So overall it’s a pretty clever way of merging sidequests with worldbuilding.

How much poop eating should there be in a video game?

Having your party gather and discuss every sidequest and their reason for doing it (and sometimes random asides like "what's your favorite monster") owns bones and more games should do it

Yeah it was rough going, after sticking to my dedicated weapon I managed to come out on top a couple of times. There were some fresh faces though like lvl 6 and all and I felt kinda bad.

Xenoblade 1 had sidequests like that too where you had to report back to an NPC and hear their whole story, it just also had a bunch of throwaway quests added on top of those to give you exp.

There are still plenty of terrible players/children playing you just have to play during daytime for north america. I play at night, though, and there's usually at least one extremely sweaty japanese player with 15+ splats per match.

That and the collectipedia tab under quests is for the less interesting “just collect stuff” style tasks with proper side quests all having some degree of story to them. So for collecting quests they’re streamlined even more since you don’t have to accept them.

in Xenoblade 2 they shifted that stuff over to the affinity trees for blades which is really annoying when they’re blocking off a field skill you want and also you can’t track them like you can sidequests

I do really like the way Xenoblade 3 does sidequests, my one concern is that since the info dialogues aren't marked on the map, I'm worried I'll end up missing something. I try to do a thorough check of every colony every so often but it would be nice if there were some more indication of what's available.

Overall I'm absolutely loving the game. My one other complaint is that it's a bit frustrating that I'm 3 chapters in and still only have one single skill on one single class that can inflict Break, and it's not even a master skill. So I either have to keep someone at a maxed out Swordfighter at all times, or I straight up can't do the major combos. I'm hoping it's not gonna be too long before I get a break master skill and don't have to worry about it any more.

An act of penance before the next game comes out.

On topic- I just recently got around to trying Tetris 99 when the "get some of the old themes" thing came up last week. It's actually alot more of a chill game when you just have something other than the Tetris music playing the whole time. I kinda wish they would have picked different tracks for the Metroid skin though.
