I've been a little unclear on just what editors do for the Big Two in the last several years. It doesn't help that Hudlin was a 'celebrity' writer.

Sometime in the early 90’s I remember a storyline of Superman being thrown back to WWII and encountering a concentration camp. I’m doing a small comic nostalgia trip and would like to read that storyline again. Does anyone remember when and where this was published?

That would be in Time And Time Again a seven part crossover from 1991 published across the three Superman books. The WWII stuff was part 3 of the arc. There is a TPB of it but it's been out of print a long time.

Speaking of Hudlin and stuff like that: He's wrote for a few Milestone Returns series and the entire concept and history of Icon is basically in the same boat.

Not just Black Panther.
They had a bunch of other Marvel genuis types (Hank Pym, the Vision, the Beast, Thor) all sitting around looking glum and sad about why they hadn't cured cancer before it came for one of their own.
I mostly remember the panel since back in my Internet 2.0 days (early 2000's) I took that panel and photoshoped thought balloons to explain what they were doing instead of curing cancer. I am sure that Black Panther's edit was a reference to the Hudlin stuff.

Just finished Taylor's Suicide Squad. Really fun stuff, I've heard great things about Tom Taylor for a while but I'm not much of a DC reader so I think this is my first one, definitely picking up more.

I'm curious if anyone has touched the characters in the book since? Was there a follow on book with The Revolution characters? I assume Dogshot has its own book now, but I can't find it.

No Revolution book yet, but they do show up in Taylor's stuff after. Even in stuff like DCeased and I realize that 'DC Universe Vs. Zombies' might be a hard sell but it's really good and goes some wild places.

They're currently in Taylor's Superman: Son of Jor-El. I think a few of them were also in one of the DCeased spin-off books, coincidentally written by, you guessed it, Frank Stallone Tom Taylor again. He really likes those guys.

Anybody read One Bad Day? I just finished it and the art is spectacular, but the story is very very Tom King.

* The Riddler helped set up The Killing Joke.
* He became the Riddler after his father abused him and a teacher insisted on putting riddles on his tests.
* The Riddler reveals that he was just doing riddles because he wanted to make his game with Batman more challenging.
* The Riddler has not only always known Batman's secret identity, but also he likes to hang out at Wayne manor and watch the Bat family sleep.
* He also knows about the family members of every Arkham guard, so everyone is afraid to touch him.
* Batman and Gordon decide they have to let him out of jail despite having him on tape murdering a random person because he's so smart.
* He also has the wives of Gotham's crime bosses killed but they decide not to retaliate. They're afraid of him because he's so smart.
* Batman maybe kills the Riddler at the end?

Just an absolutely baffling comic.

Edit: King seems to excel at a "one for me, one for them" production schedule. One project will have an original idea or intriguing premise, the other will be "every time you turn the page of a superhero comic, the hero puts a gun in their mouth then stashes it away just in time for you to continue reading, you sadistic bastard."

The question is, which is which?

Nightwing is so good. Every issue is just really very enjoyable.

I liked the conversation with Kate about her marriage not happening. It's clearly setting up Dick proposing to Barbara or vice versa. I just hope DC doesn't mess with this couple. They're so good together.

The first issue is bad, but mostly it is good. Personally I appreciate reading a good book from DC where Batman related stuff isn't totally dominant. This title is the push the new generation of DC heroes needed all along. It helps that most DC events are extremely dire so this one looks even better by comparison.

As a 40 year old man, I am too young to give a crap about the villain or what they are doing. It is strange that so much of the story is nostalgia driven for people that could be literal grandparents. At the same time the two super teams that show up in issue three definitely made me more excited for the future of non Batman DC than I have been for years.

Also, lol that the Bendis leaving DC/show cancelation double whammy means that Naomi got "yeeted" out of the Justice League moments before this story began just in time to never appear again.

I think parts have been good and parts have been bad, gonna have to wait for more before I can come to an overall opinion.

Joe Fisto posted:

I've been really enjoying Nightwing but I felt like this issue came down with a bad case of someone having to be stupid so the plot can happen. Like, Dick knows full well Blockbuster wants to wreck his little park/project but gets no one in his big crew of heroes (including himself!) to guard it while he's out doing his big multi-point strike. And i know going "well why doesn't Superman help?" is usually a dumb question but when he's already got all the Bat-famiy + the Teen Grown Titans and he's already crossed over with Superman once, the question does kinda come to mind.

But I get it, at the end of the day it has to end with Dick getting wrecked and unmasked, I just don't like how it got there.

(probably don't need to add spoiler tags but the issue just came out so I'll leave them on)
