I wouldn't buy a whole bike, the shipping will be ludicrously expensive for something that bulky and unwieldy
You can probably buy a Bafang conversion kit without much trouble though

As mentioned above, due to shipping it will not be worth it.

However I did buy a xiaomi qicycle from a local importing company (kogan, for the Australians itt). It was a few hundred bucks cheaper than any other ebike I found online, and I've done 2500km on it to date.

The only problems I've had with it is that I've spent a fair bit on upgrades and improvements because I'm a little bit big for it, and it didn't come with some essential accessories.

If I had my time again, it would've cost about the same to buy a more legit bike that already comes with a cargo rack and mudguards.

All in all, the bike is fine and has been good value, but there's probably a local ebike shop in your area that will make you something better for not much more money.

Happy to go into further detail about the mods I made if anyone is interested.

Now I bought from an Aussie ebay seller but this is the closest I can find on aliexpress:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004063518400.html

Can confirm my 100+KG weight wasn't to much of an issue, getting 33km/h on the flat areas.

The actual ebay listing for those in need:
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/284282523254

EDIT:
One thing is even with proper tyres the ride is a bit jarring. So I did a quick search and of course there are modifications!!!

I recommend this for everyone too in the sake of safety!:

And seeing it's a knockoff it doesn't have the Bluetooth like the real Xiamei model...so I might get this to enable BT logging and firmware upgrades:

Yo my taobao haul is here! Took about a month with the second cheapest shipping option, including customs and everything.

The Whiskers feel like cheap plastic junk, would not recommend. The Juliet are at least metal, there's this weird rubber thingy sticking out, but otherwise feel decent. Everything looks and feels reasonably legit and well made. The yeezis are super bouncy, it's weird. Nailed the sizes on everything at least, so no worries there.

Next time will definitely get a few more band shirts and maybe button-downs to fill out gaps in my palette, as well as those Bruce Lee Onitsukas I wanted in the first place.

For ebike, it's cheaper to buy from local based companies (US or CA) because they handling the container shipping part themselves to optimize shipping cost. Plus you can call and ask for replacement of broken parts.

I hve brought a few e skateboards and e scooters on kick-starter. The experience has been fine but there is almost no warranty. I ordered extra charger and never got it. I wouldn't recommend this to my friend. Only do this to new weird bike from China that you really want.

Edit, if you are talking about tiny ebikes only popular in China like those 10-12 inch wheel tiny bikes then they are belonged to the weird poo poo category.

Yeah it does seem like it’s cheaper / better to just get one here in LA. I wasn’t sure if I could get a better one off Ali for the same price.

I dunno about the US but many stores have local warehouses in the EU so you can get larger stuff for free/cheap shipping from a neighboring country.

I've gotten kits to convert bikes and, believe it or not, a decent battery from it- kits were around $250 to $300 for up to 1500 watts (this is illegal scooter territory so, uh, don't do that). Look for Voilamart brand if you want to go that route.

A bunch that I found turned out to be out of stock. This guy supposedly has it, but they're not real leather (or there's a fabric version): https://umkao.x.yupoo.com/albums/107778974?uid=1

I wouldn't care but I'm concerned they won't last for poo poo so I'm looking for another seller. This one does have some real leather and suede versions, just not in the right color, so they must exist.

Similar things are for sale at lab supply stores as sample container or PP / HDPE jar / beaker.
Maybe those terms will help you find something similar on ali.

Most people know that Xiaomi is the closest thing to a respected brand that actually sells through aliexpress, so slapping their trademark on it makes it sound like quality. There are a few other companies in smaller niches, like expiff or seagull.

I always feel like I could make a career creating brand names for Chinese junk manufacturers so they wouldn't have to sell poo poo under random gibberish names. I guess the margins are too low for them to bother about any such thing. I didn't think Lunex was such a bad name for the shades my wife gave me, til I looked closer and realized its actually Luenx. I mean you can buy tons of literal counterfeit poo poo with actual logos on there, so they cant be that concerned about possible copyright infringement?

Xiaomi makes me mad because I want their phones in the west, where our phone market is dominated and castrated by apple and samsung just releasing tiny incremental upgrades and not pushing the envelope in the least.
