interesting, that explains soap lighting. why do they use fuzzy lenses though?

edit i know they use super fuzzy ones for dream sequences and poo poo but it seems the baseline is off too

I realize you mean filters.

filters soften skin, make it look like a haze is in the room, some can emulate the glow that 35mm film has but on a digital camera. They can cause lights to twinkle.

The strength in this shot is "2" and today most people will use something like 1/8 to 1/2 for this exact filter, black pro mist,... but they used to use more. Modern audiences don't have a taste for it

Minority Report was shot with pantyhose pulled over the lens. It makes the highlights glow in a slightly geometric way

You can see the sun/light on the right side of this frame has a x-shaped flair. That's from the stocking

the rise of 'soft queers' as the default media portrayal is 100% meant to remove the radical and revolutionary roots of the queer community. It happens to every minority as the ~representative media~ becomes the main focus of discourse rather than what the media actually is or says. Black people become hip cool friends who exist to sell fashion and introduce cool slang to the audience, Latinos are quaint rustic family focused neighbors who just want to have fun, Asians are smart and hard working with wacky immigrant parents, etc. Any elements of revolution and struggle are removed to make the community easily digestible for the majority and never cause any discomfort.

Don't worry, we're already seeing it for trans/nb sides of the queer world. Trans/nb people are your sassy, maybe a bit too sexual but never fetishized or victimized, friend who does cool stuff like say boys can wear skirts and never talks about the freaks who chase them into the bathroom demanding to see their shlong or the near constant threat of violence they face even just existing normally. Even while lawmakers are actively trying to increase this violence our ~representative media~ is ensuring more shows have happy, problem free, trans people or nonbinary people who's struggles are just like yours and in no way have to fight for even basic human dignity because that'd bum people out too much if Trans Jenny The Trans Woman Trans Trans Trans ever had a bigger problem than having two dates to prom.

sort of on hbo max is really good if you want to see actually queer characters with personalities beyond really shallow gimmicks

It's a don delillo novel that was acclaimed at release. It's about a professor of 'Hitler Studies' and his family, who are exposed to a mysterious Unexplained Atmospheric Event (some kind of industrial catastrophe iirc). This becomes a catalyst for him to slowly realize the alienating and inhuman nature of late capitalism. It feels a bit of its time but an adaptation could be interesting

The best part of white noise is the tone of the dialogue and prose, I don’t think you can really do it justice just describing the plot. It’s the main reason I feel like the movie will either be terrible or amazing—it needs to capture that mix of detached irony, fluorescent surrealism and industrial horror.

Man I looked through the Peter Sarsgaard episode of SNL from January 2006 and holy poo poo is it a time capsule of bad. There's a sketch where pirates love to say arrrrr followed by a digital short that's Chuck Norris jokes. The thing opens with a topical sketch that involves minutes and minutes of Darrell Hammond in blackface playing Jesse Jackson. What a loving wretched time it was

Minority Report did look kind of like poo poo in certain shots but that worked so well for an adaptation of a PKD story where half the time you're like "drat. gently caress. wow what the gently caress, sucks for them I guess. poo poo"
