It’s Democratic socialist in the same sense as Gorbachev’s USSR was democratic socialist: a cartel of producers and organized criminals is currently keeping the country under the sway of monopolist price gougers while withdrawing from Afghanistan in order to wage economic warfare against eastern Europa

I owe this tread an apology. I have been working with Street Watch for almost three years and when I first started I defended DSA-LA because I saw all the powerful work SW was doing on the ground. This happened at tonight's meeting

https://twitter.com/GinaForLA/status/1561564575950024704?s=20&t=61jUtZyr0Oqt_mqKA6ofhA

They told us we had to accept DSA-LA ownership over the org or leave, literally every local except the one is ejecting right now. gently caress DSA-LA and gently caress DSA. I should have listened to everyone who told me they were trash. Straight purged 85% of the org to try and prevent losing control of the org.

Maybe it was in a different thread but I remember some folks shiting on DSA-LA and me being like "Street Watch is a good thing they are doing so they can't be all bad!" or something alog those lines.

Street Watch LA is a group of people who work with the unhoused people in LA, we do things like mutual aid, sweep support, court support and our overall goal is to organize with unhoused people to resist state violeience. Street Watch was started by DSA-LA but opened up their membership to none DSA-LA members. Soon the vast majorty of the people doing work on the ground were not DSA-LA members. When we started having issues accessing the money people donated to us that was help in a DSA-LA account Street Watch voted to find a new fiscal sponsor. The DSA-LA members who started Street Watch used their positions of power in the org to slow down and then ignore the vote for almost a year. Now things have come to a head over another conflict between orgnizers and ~85% of the members want out of DSA-LA. So the DSA-LA members have locked us out of all the accounts, told us they are taking the money in 2 weeks, and that if we don't accept DSA-LA control of Street Watch we aren't welcome to organize anymore. I have been a member of Street Watch for almost three years, have served as the budget coordinator for a year, helped found a new chapter in my part of LA, and helped write the bylaws for the org. it is 100% accurate to say that DSA-LA is stealing Street Watch from it's members. Not saying we weren't dumb for putting outselves in this position, but they straight up lied to us and are ignoring all the inteneral processes we agreed to.

It 100% fits into the narrative and warnings I have been given about DSA from people I have met organizing and from people on these forums. Should have listened and avoided anything connected with DSA.

my second favorite part is where you say you do mutual aid with unhoused people

hmmmm.... my dsa chapter alone has organized 3 workplaces and has organized a unionization campaign at a fourth as of this month. hundreds of workers unionized. SEP has never organized any workplace in their history.

SEP has however written one of the funniest articles on the internet about being offended by jokes
