Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed shitposting.

Pretty much every Powder Ganger you can talk to admits to committing a variety of actual crimes, from stealing medical supplies to sell, to committing acts of terrorism, etc. I'm sure there's some "wrong place wrong time" folk in there, but that's not the vibe the game gives off.

The courier is foraging and salvaging. Big difference.

Especially if they're doing it for a state power like the NCR.

I do think it's hilarious that taking stuff from legion camps gives me bad karma, even after I have killed hundreds and got good karma for murdering them in quests.

I mean karma literally never matters in NV but it always makes me laugh to see it.

The NCR already has a wealth of pre-war records, knowledge and tech when they were starting out, which gives them a considerable advantage for starting a society.

The railways would benefit the people of Vegas too, but getting hardened, unremorseful convicts to do it, rather than engineers and paid civilian labour was a terrible idea. Especially with dynamite and the undermanned nature of the NCR frontier.

Cass will leave you if your karma is too low. I'm not sure where else it comes into play.

If one faces Legate Lanius at the battle of Hoover Dam and the speech or barter checks cannot be passed, or the wrong dialogue is selected at the near-end or the beginning, he will prepare to engage combat, and the player character will have a unique "good" Karma dialogue option that will convince him to fight them alone, "honorably," regardless of whether the player character has followers with them.

According to the wiki it's literally just that and Cass.

The irksome thing is around the time I was sorting out Cass I had somehow managed to help myself to enough owned items that I was actually teetering towards evil karma, if only briefly. I'm not even a klepto by the usual standards in these games.

The fps design probably lowers the barrier to entry compared to the crpg mechanics of POE; I know I've tried to get into both of those games multiple times but have bounced off them repeatedly.

It also helps that 1950s cowboy apocalypse (with added Romans) is a much more initially striking setting over the fairly standard fantasy trappings of PoE.

I'm not a huge crpg fan and bought Pillars specifically because I loved Alpha Protocol and New Vegas. I love both Pillars games too, but I don't know that I'd have bothered with them without that pre-existing goodwill

Soiled Meat
The problem with CRPG discussions is that people mostly talk about builds and mechanics, which doesn't really interest me that much, and very little about the story, characters etc. With New Vegas it tends to be the opposite.

New Reno's still a thing and when you recruit the singer guy in Novac fpr the Tops he actually talks about new vegas like its second rate compared to playing a new reno casinos. a lot of the tourists are going there specifically to see the strip as a tourist attraction of pre-war architecture that's been preserved over time though, plus its much closer to the "core states" of the NCR except for Shady Sands which is actually roughly equidistant (Shady Sands is east of Mount Whitney so call it lone pine our world.) Also a woman can walk down the street in New Vegas without having 20 guys try to get her into porn acting.

Ce n'est pas un chat.
Given that the Bishops' goal was always going legit as politicians, and they're confirmed to exist, seems like the Salvatores and Mordinos got wiped out - understandably, Salvatores were only important due to lasers from the Enclave and the Mordinos were brutes controlling Jet, once both of these are cleared off the board, they get eaten alive. So from what I can tell:

1. New Reno is an NCR territory with Bishops moving on from violence and debauchery to politics in the Republic, outside the criminal power structure.
2. Wrights survived and the Van Graffs descended in from Redding.
3. New Reno is still largely autonomous, even if it's part of the Republic.

There's only one JSawyer mod, download link is on this page: https://fallout-archive.fandom.com/wiki/JSawyer

There's a "JSawyer Ultimate" mod on the nexus which is made by a different guy, and implements a lot of the same changes more cleanly and also does some other stuff. It's cool but also should really have been called something else imo

If you're playing with Tale of Two Wastelands there's a modified version of Jsawyer made to work with it in mind that removes some changes that don't fit with the double-game and FO3 mold too.

That Sargeant at Camp Golf also mentions growing up in New Reno and getting out before she became someone's 'property'. So it sounds like it's still pretty bad.
