General rule of thumb with obscure semi-celebrities(i.e. people who the media isn't gonna cover because they aren't famous enough) is to never go digging to find out anything about their personal lives or political views because you may get a nasty surprise. Better to stay blissfully unaware.

I've noticed that F-list washups who were AT BEST c-listers 20-40 years ago all go full on chud. Ricky Schroeder straight up gave money to Kyle Rittenhouse's bail fund and Kevin Sorbo's entire career is based around sub-Hallmark Channel quality movies where he owns the libs.

I decided to look up Ryan Stiles. I mean, surely he can't be anything but awesome.

That Pulp Fiction 4K has been pushed, maybe scrubbed I guess, but probably just pushed back with no new release date yet. According to Jeff from Films At Home on youtube Tarantino isn't a fan of the format and won't be participating in the process

If it was a CG heavy movie I might understand not supporting a format that might really show the seams, but I can't imagine what having Pulp Fiction in a higher definition (still lower than what would have been shown in theaters at release?) would do to harm the movie?

It could be that he's not a fan of HDR, I know some people feel HDR has a tendency to be overdone to the point that it changes the intended look of some films. Of course that could be avoided by Tarantino overseeing the process and/or just releasing the it without HDR at all, but maybe they aren't even offering him that level of control.

it really depends on a lot of variables of how the movie was shot on 35mm but on a best case (slow speed emulsion, perfect density exposed negative, etc etc) you can pull up to 8k resolution. A good scan of said best case stuff would be on par with seeing a great condition 35mm print projected..it's lateral..which is why it's like, why do you give a poo poo if there's a UHD version???

(i have no idea about nits, so i would assume that an analog projector is blasting more light through film then a HDR peak display can achieve but, maybe someone else knows this aspect)

all i can think of is maybe these directors are worried that a reference-level release would cut into streaming royalties? which would be silly but..who knows

This doesn't make sense to me either..Bob Richardson shot just about everything that the DP who did pulp/res dogs didn't shoot.

Bob's like the reverse of the guy who shot the godfather who underlit everything in that he infamously will hit actors with overexposed light. It's his stylistic touch..This is one of those instances like 12 monkeys where even with HDR without any creative supervision, they couldn't bring back highlight detail that was totally gone in the camera negative. Pure white is pure white, even with an extended tonal range leading into it.
Basically, even with hosed HDR they won't be able to undo the lighting intent that was more or less baked in on set.

I wonder if he just doesn't really like the dp that only did pulp and res who he didn't work with again after and doesn't want to deal with restoration/new scans, whatever.

Vinegar Syndrome September is:
- Amityville Horror (4k)
- The Iceman Cometh
- Buried Alive
- Mutant Hunt
- Red Sun Rising (VSA)

I'm really digging that the VSA releases have been martial arts flicks for a while now.

it's the original, and it's OK. Probably a masterpiece compared to the majority of the franchise but I've never really cared for it that much.

Amityville: The Evil Escapes is the most entertaining one because they try really hard to make a lamp scary. Amityville: It's About Time is probably the best one, but that's not a high bar to clear.

Amityville 2 is the best one. The first has some cool stuff in it and a neat late 70s vibe, otherwise it's way too long and kind of boring when flies aren't swarming Rod Steiger's face. The second one delivers the goods.

In the later 2000s, when I was single and lived alone my standard Saturday night was to head to Asda, go to their custom pizza section and order a pizza for dinner, then while they were assembling it, head over to the DVD/Bluray section, where they had a chart of new releases where everything was like £7, I'd pick a movie, go back and get my pizza, pay and return home. Once the pizza was done in the oven I'd sit and watch my new movie while eating my pizza.

I kind of miss it, but I'm in the US now with a family, and the prices are kind of higher (though I can still find reasonable prices used if I head down to Rasputin's). Now I just have to buy older movies on Amazon for like $7 (my favourite is when the Blu-ray is cheaper than the DVD, both of which are cheaper than the online rental).
