Maybe it’s not a bad thing that people have to choose between driving and A/C, from time to time. It’s going to be bloody hard to meet future energy needs and migrate away from fossil fuels without changes to energy consumption habits. Having to think about energy needs on a day to day basis and not just treating electricity as an ever abundant supply would certainly help.

As a boomer, I grew up without A/C. Didn't have a car with it until 1986. Had a used window unit in my third apartment in 1989. Yet I did not die. It's better having it - particularly for the ill & elderly - but to try and derail national policy over it (even as a hyperbolic lie!) is some real snowflake crap.

Everyone should track down the movie 'Gizmo!' from the late 70's. It was as if a time traveler recreated a YouTube 'fail' channel with stock footage from that era. It has this, people doing stunts, those early flying machines disintegrating, Buster Keaton stunts, that one dude who got shot in the stomach with a cannonball, etcetera. When they first started, they didn't have any pyro trained people and the lead singer hurt himself during one of their shows. He actually went and got properly trained and certified after that. The amount of fuel spent on their various fire displays was crazy.
