Yes.
Blind Guardian report:

New album loving rules. Even the previously unimpressive track Secrets of the American Gods has somehow sprung to life for me when brought to conjunction with the rest of the album.

I am so loving happy.

I'm digging the guitar work. Dave needs to stop singing though. And the downtempo breakdowns are horrible, it's supposed to be thrash you jerks.

There's a couple decent tracks on the new Megadeth, but a lot of it just blends together. Ironically, Dave did his best vocal work on the 2 covers.

The art of war is simple enough.

Nordick posted:

This is exactly how it was for me too. I found it enjoyable enough enough while it was playing and it indisputably sounded like Blind Guardian, but it just left no trace of its passing, had absolutely no hooks. The way I've described it is "a homogenated Blind Guardian slurry".

Anyways, the new album is available on Spotify for me now, so :getin:

EDIT: I cannot possibly overstate how much I will never, ever get bored of this band's weird wailing guitar sound.

I really liked Beyond the Red Mirror, to me it was their best effort yet at blending the band/songwriting with the live orchestra (in fact 2 orchestras and 3 separate choirs on the album, because why not). There were some great songs, some not so great, and there's definitely a samey feeling to their general riff-writing style nowadays but it's still enjoyable. The mix was a real letdown, although by the time the album came out they had already done 3 albums with Charlie Bauerfeind's muddy production so it wasn't like it was a surprise.

It also gave us Doom which was a nice relic from the Nightfall in Middle-Earth days that was never released:

Looking forward to listening to the new album.

I don’t think I’ve ever listened to a single Blind Guardian song, it just never seemed like my kind of thing. Now that I see you guys rave about them this much I feel like I need to see what I’m missing. What’s the best, most Blind Guardianly Blind Guardian album of all time?

As someone who would easily rank power metal near the bottom of all metal genres, Blind Guardian still kick massive rear end.

Somewhere Far Beyond for their more speed metal-y sound, Nightfall in Middle Earth for the epic symphonic Tolkien metal.

Or even just listening to Live or Tokyo Tales. One of the few bands who are even better live, which is crazy considering how great they are recorded. I got to see them right after they released Beyond the Red Mirror and it was a religious experience

Big, hooky choruses have kind of always been their thing, even on their older stuff. Nightfall in Middle Earth is probably the overall catchiest for my money though.

Yes.
I've been listening to Blind Guardian since the mid/late 90s, and Nightfall in Middle Earth still makes me want to howl along to those loving choruses.

Imaginations and that other older material is brilliant too, but Nightfall is basically all time top 10 metal albums material.

The new album is solid and I'm back to listening to Somewhere through Nightfall as one long super album over and over. And ya their live albums are insane, Live 2003 is probably the best live album I've ever heard

If you don't really like power metal and especially euro stuff, I think the first 2 BG albums are the best. Those two are way closer to traditional heavy metal than their later stuff.

I was on a Baltic cruise once for some student thing, and while drunkenly wandering around the ship I came across a few dudes singing this, so I just darted up to them to sing the chorus with them. It was fun and one of them shared a few swigs of his liquor with me. That is my #1 Grave Digger story.

Obviously Persuader, since Jens Carlsson sings in both.

Another good pick is Dark Forest, their vocalist sounds somewhat similar to Hansi.
