Tunicate posted:was it supposed to be captured? It said " One of the displays was of ammunition used in the war with Russia." which I didn't assume was captured russian stuff It was reportedly a display by the Territorial Defense Forces, showing off some of the weapons they were using to fight the Russians. The story is that while they were showing them off to the civilians, they accidentally put the grenade launcher into combat mode. That's what he gets for not doing it the really osha way. Wrap a chain around the rock and the rear tire so it winches the rock out as you drive over the chain. It's recommended not to stand nearby while the driver does this.

There was a small chain of tex-mex restaurants in London (and possibly elsewhere in the UK?) called Texas Lone Star. My friends and I would celebrate the end of each college year by going to one, and a traditional part of the process was admiring the "ingenious system of pulleys" that drove the ceiling fans. In retrospect, the food quality was pretty awful, I've no idea if the chain still exists.

Platystemon posted:He puts insect repellant lotion on every time he goes to work? Depending on the hours one goes to work, one might be caught in twilight hours, when mosquitoes love to swarm. Whole host of other bugs to consider as well, but "a swarm of ants" is probably not the intended purpose of insect repellent lotion.

Update on the short circuited and sagging power lines: the 150kV AC lines indeed heated up and sagged far enough to get in direct contact with the 1,5-1,8kV DC train power lines Feeder for the train's 1,5kV DC powerline completely hosed. The foamers ITT might recognize that those isolators are pretty big for 1,5kV - that's correct. They're specced for 25kV because eventually we want to take the leap from the inefficient old 1,5kV DC system to the 25kV AC system. Eventually. Sometime. Please? It will take at least 10 days for the railways to fix all the damage, but that's a very optimist estimate. They themselves admit that they have to inspect and replace a LOT. As of yet, the story is that the section of power line that goes to a regional substation was deenergized for maintenance. It was, however, switched online for unknown reasons, despite being worked on. It seems the workers got lucky. No one got vaporized. The government ordered this to be researched on an national level, if the workers would've been around they would have been made non-existant in seconds and there should have been no way that they power was sent onto the line that was being worked on. A command to switch off was sent, but the interruptor up the line failed to respond to the command. After several minutes, somewhere even further upstream the power was cut manually.
